I'm not going to lie the chicken fried steak is pretty good. The fresh fried okra was on point. The side salad was fresh even the tomatoes. The mashed potatoes were.... ehhh.
I came here because I was told they had a huge chicken fried steak. Well that and because the weather was terrible. But mainly the chicken fried steak.
There weren't very many customers at the time I came in. Maybe 6 total including me. I arrived at around 1730 craving this chicken fried steak that everyone has been yammering on about to me for the last 6 weeks. I had viewed reviews about it, seen pictures of it and I was impressed with the size of it.
As I gazed upon the menu, I noticed that there were two different listings of the chicken fry. One which was a small portion with a smaller price and a larger one which might have been around$11, and another one that was listed as $15 and some change. I asked about the huge chicken fried steak and it's size. She said it was pretty big. So I was really excited about it. I got mashed taters and a side salad.
I noticed that there was a couple sitting a few tables away from me when I sat down. One person had their order the other didn't. About 45 minutes in, the other person received their plate. They got it to go.
After waiting for a little over an hour, I was asked what I ordered. I said I got the huge chicken fry with mashed potatoes and a side salad. I thought that was weird because only one person came in after I ordered. To my disappointment, I got a small to medium sized portion. It wasn't even big enough to touch the sides of the plate. It was surrounded with a moat of cream gravy. There was a heaping sized portion of mashed potatoes with cream gravy and a small bowl of fried okra. She then brought out my side salad.
The chicken fry was thick. But it was still small. I figured I would get charged for the medium sized one. Nope! Got charged $15 and some change.
My waitress was sweet, but overwhelmed. I had been finished with my food for about 15 minutes before she had a chance to ask me if I needed a refill on my drink that I had finished 10 minutes after receiving my food. I did ask for a slice of pie and a refill. Was told to hold on because she had to go put in an order for a different table. She brought me my pie, and I asked her about my refill. She said she thought she brought it already. Pie was delicious, drink wasn't the same as I ordered.
I'm not going to be an ... to my waitress. She had a lot going on. So I tipped her what I'd normally tip low reviews. And paid for a chicken fried steak portion that was way overpriced.
I'll probably come back again next week if I'm in the area. The fried pork chops looked promising.
Didn't even take a picture of the...
Read moreSo, I didn't think this quaint little restaurant would be open but it was. I sat down and had the best 2 egg breakfast I think I've ever had. Ther eggs were scrambled and cooked to perfection, the perfect crispness to the bacon and the hashbrowns... perfect ratio of crispy to soft and tender. This isn't some modern hip looking place, it looks like it's been here since the 70s but I like that. It is real food with real people and not a commercialized restaurant. I knew I liked the food and enjoyed the restaurant but when more customers came in and greeted by name and their usual order was instantly started... I fell in love with this place. I will be back whenever I can and hope to be considered a...
Read moresmoking section does not work, the entire place smells like a ashtray --- there was no one in the smoking section, and it still smelled bad from 40ft away... it is a trucker haven with decent food and coffee and local tv.... definitely not a place to take the kids to eat.. the menu was kind of worthless when half the items I asked about were not available that evening. There is a daily special, so they have plenty of that avail... Terrible bathrooms, the men's room especially -- there are ash trays next to each toilet and the patrons will put out their cigarettes on the tile wall before dropping the smoke -- so burn marks on the...
