Attended the 65th annual Fishersville Antiques Expo (Virginia) on Friday Oct.11, 2019. First off, it was a perfect day for the outside vendors and treasure hunters! Usually, it's 50-50 for extreme heat, wind or rain. We have traveled the flea market, antique show and auction circuit for decades. Since eBay and other online venues hit the scene, really good antiques and collectible markets have been few and far between. Usually, it's tube socks, fake-tiques and yard-sale leftovers. This show was one of the best we've been to in a very long time! The vendors were great and enjoyable to chat/deal with. There was an extremely nice selection of primitives, a plethora of advertising, some jewelry, silver, antique cast iron, early 19th century books, quilts, fabrics, etc. Best of all, it was a pleasure to be able to personally handle an item vs. looking at photographs; also to get first hand information about an item. It was well-worth our 2 hour drive to attend. The only negative was a lack of food & drink vendors. We found a stand selling sandwiches, chips & drinks inside one of the indoor buildings and it was mediocre:-(( We will definitely return for the 2020 spring...
Read moreGreat gun show. Prices looked fair. A little small compared to Richmond Raceway and Dulles Expo but I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of older collectables here.
I’ve made an observation that a lot of older folks here shy away from doing background checks electronically on the tablets. Doing it electronically is a lot easier and faster in my opinion. Apparently doing paperless background checks is the new mandate. I get filling out on paper the old fashioned way is what we’re all used to but the electronic version isn’t rocket science. Again its actually easier. Bring your glasses, get with the times or get left behind.
My suggestion is have at least 2 or more people stationed for the background checks. More than half the show were small private sellers and there was only one guy from the state police running the background checks trying to control the crowd and literally baby sitting...
Read moreVery organised event, seems to grow bigger every year. Prepare to spend a few hours here as there are three buildings plus outdoor stands full of antiques. Also you will mostly find actual antique items, primitive and farmhouse type. Don't expect to find 'vintage' items as much. Lots of estate sales as well, amd if you are in the market for large furniture there is a TON. Looking forward to see what the October event will bring. Pricing is a little high but alot of vendors are open to...
