The Thunderdome — Local services in Sturgis

This place is huge! It is the first stop for registration during the annual Sturgis Mustang Rally (even though it is on the opposite end of Sturgis). There are also many events held here during the Mustang Rally such as the launch box competition, drifting, Mustang barrel racing and much more. There is tons of seating to watch the outside events but be prepared to get there early if you want to sit under the awning in regular seating. Otherwise you will be sitting on bleachers in the sun. The awards banquet is also held here but that is in the main building and like I said before the place is huge! I’ve been stopping by the drift events over the course of this summer. The Thunderdome is the perfect place for this event with multi-level seating outside for an overall aerial track view and lots other activities going inside the Thunderdome. If you need gas or convenience store items, Kickstart is next door which has a very wide selection of items. The promoters are good people. They’re very down to earth, approachable and more than happy to answer questions. The same goes for the drift car drivers. If you want a ride, it’s easy to sign up and find someone with a car to jump in with. Riding in a drift car is something a person should experience! After you’ve done it, your favorite carnival ride will seem like nothing more than a ride to the grocery store...

Was great and busy when it was the Beaver Bar but now it is pathetic. Hardly anybody there and they sure know how to stink up the neighboring campgrounds with the burnouts and drifting for hours on end during the Sturgis Rally. There was about 9 people watching the bikes burn around the parking lot track which should be a clue to the latest owners but I doubt it.
