I hate to say it, but this place is hit or miss. The first time I went, the steamed crabs were amazing. Nice size and steamed perfectly. The second time, they were small, mushy, and tasted old. I could only eat 3 out of the dozen and a half I bought. I hadn't gone back for a while, but unfortunately, the GOOD crab man wasn't there at his spot on this day, so I gave Farmer Joe's another try. The crabs were horrible. Small, no claws, the back was already broken off, which leads me to believe they were too small to even be kept and cooked! They either were mushy or hollow with no meat. But once you get a taste of the goodness of those CRABS it will keep you coming back for more. I travel from NC to Franklin VA to visit my mom often and no way can I be this close and not get me some crabs. We were really disappointed in them, especially after reading other reviews that seemed to really like them. Store is more like combination low-end beauty supply meets grocery meets trinkets.
