Unless you are history buff specifically about Fort Sumter and its era, it's not worth taking the amount of time it takes to visit Fort Sumter (close to 3 hours round trip if you arrive as early as they want you to). The rangers do a good job with the ferry ride over, but you're not learning much that isn't readily available by reading just a little bit. The fort itself is not set up in a way that gets you learning or interested - a few cannons dotted around and a few signs. I'm not saying the fort should be restored, but some more staging could do a lot...

Greatly enjoyed the ferry ride to and from the island, and of couse exploringthe island itself. It is a bit pricy but one has to take the ferry and historic site maintenance into account. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and had a sense of humor. Lots of cool history to see on the island itself,as well as seabirds and some cargo shipping going by. Some thought provoking exhibits in the visitor center as well. A nice, informative, relaxing...

I had a really hard time walking from arthritis when I was here but the staff couldn't have been more kind to ask me if I needed help. I had visited before, so I just sat while my family looked around. It was very crowded and hot the day we were there. Its surreal to imagine while sitting there, all the chaos that occurred at the...

We really enjoyed our visit to Fort Sumter—it is incredible to stand where such significant history took place. The park rangers gave an excellent historical overview during the ferry ride to the island, making the experience even more meaningful. We even spotted several dolphins in the bay, which was an unexpected highlight of the trip.
