Unless you are history buff specifically about Fort Sumter and its era, it's not worth taking the amount of time it takes to visit Fort Sumter (close to 3 hours round trip if you arrive as early as they want you to). The rangers do a good job with the ferry ride over, but you're not learning much that isn't readily available by reading just a little bit. The fort itself is not set up in a way that gets you learning or interested - a few cannons dotted around and a few signs. Read moreGreatly enjoyed the ferry ride to and from the island, and of couse exploringthe island itself. It is a bit pricy but one has to take the ferry and historic site maintenance into account. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and had a sense of humor. Lots of cool history to see on the island itself,as well as seabirds and some cargo shipping going by.
