My friends and I (3 of us) wanted to get together for a relaxing Sunday. We decided to try out tubing on the Sunrise River opposed to the Apple River thinking it would be a little more relaxing and quiet. When we got there we waiting for a bit by the registration office and were eventually greeted by one of the workers. When we were on the shuttle he told us "there is one rapid and one tree down but other than that everything is fine". When we got in the river, the basket to put our cooler in that we paid $10 for almost broke off of the tube and we had to rush to get more twine on it. Thankfully one of my friends brought extra twine. As we started going we realized that there was more than one rapid. (Overall we think there were more than 10). They got scarier and scarier to go through. Our butts and legs got beaten and bruised by the rock and there was no way to avoid them at the pace of the current.. within the first 30 minutes we got stuck on a tree limb and my friends tube popped. So we floated the rest of the way with 3 people and 2 tubes. In one of the rapids the tube my friend and I were on flipped and broke off from our other friends tube. It was extremely scary the rest of the way with having to stop every 10 minutes to get adjusted back on the tubes and making sure we wouldn't be broken off again. When we were almost to the end a man standing on a bluff was yelling and cursing at us saying "you better get moving otherwise I'm leaving your a&&es here!" We told him that the rapids are very bad and that's why it has taken us a while and this was a horrible experience. He replied "good, we don't want people like you here". We were very confused because we didn't know who this man was or if he worked there or not. We finally got back to the stairs after a few more rapids we had to through. We saw the shuttle and the man who was yelling at us was driving. He said nothing to us and right when we got in the shuttle he put the gas peddle down angrily and drove recklessly. I was extremely uncomfortable at that point and didn't understand what we did wrong. We were nice and genuine to all of the staff and were respectful to the river. When we got back he told us we have to pay for the tube that we lost. (We lost the tube with the hole in it after my friend and I flipped off of ours). He said if we don't give him $40 for the tube he's not giving us our keys back. We said it popped and there was no carelessness involved in the loss of the tube. He then went in to talk to the "manager". He came back out and said you don't have to pay for the tube "but you are never allowed back here". I then spoke up and said "what did we do wrong?" He replied "you took too long". We then tried to explain the rapids and how bad they were but he continued to throw the f-bomb at us saying "get the f@&$ out of here" and threw my friends keys at her. Yes, the rapids were terrifying and my friends and I have bruises all over our bodies, but I'm more disappointed in the employees/ owners at this place and how they treated us. I never do these review things and I'm pretty low maintaince. But I don't want anybody to have to experience what my friends and I...
Read moreA couple friends and I went this past week because Cannon River (Welch) was closed due to high water. -The lady that ran the place was welcoming. -You cannot bring your own tubes. -Life-jackets are included but not mandatory. -It’s about 2 hours to get to the end. -You walk about 3 blocks with your tubes to get in the river at the start and then at the end the shuttle picks you up. -There are a good amount of rapids and rocks so it is crucial to wear good shoes. There are a handful of trees on the float so be mindful of that. Part of the fun is navigating those things so it’s a personal preference that I didn’t mind it. It may be a dealbreaker for some. -Even though we have had a lot of rain this season, the river was still very shallow in about 1/3 of the float so I can’t imagine if the river was “low” in a season with little rain. -Overall, the water was pretty clean I have to say. There are some areas that smelled worse than others but it’s a river so it should be expected. -They do take your car keys as collateral for the tubes and return them to you when you get back. -The reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is because it’s quite dangerous trying to get out at the end. The rocks are slick. There is no dock or anything to grab on to help you and your tubes get out of the water. There is a missing stair and my friend fell twice. All in all, I would go back because it was very low key and enjoyable. I just hope the owner and/or city create a more safe way to exit the...
Read moreMy husband and I recently went river tubing through Sunrise Tubing. It was his first river tubing experience, as it was his birthday gift. I assumed that the Sunrise River was going to be calm with some current, but I was pleasantly surprised that the ride encompassed both serene and adventure!! I personally thought the rapids made our experience much more thrilling and fun!! My spouse agreed; he wants to go again! Yes, you have to pay attention to avoid some tree branches, and the large rocks, but it’s all part of the experience!! I had previous experience on a different river, so I thought I knew what to expect, but I was surprised with the unknown on a ever-changing river, which made for extra excitement! Although my tube got stuck on some shallow rock a couple of times, I thought that made it even more fun since I was looking for a thrill! The scenic view of nature was what we expected—beautiful!! I wore water shoes and insect repellent which I thought was wise. Patti, who operates the business, is both a gem and thorough! Her coworker Wayne was also helpful in gathering our tubes and shuttling us back to the site. My husband’s friend is actually going to be taking his family there this weekend to have some fun! Tubing on the Sunrise River was close to home, it was a blast, and the staff was very courteous and fun to talk to! Highly recommend!!! Thank you,...
