Pender Pines is a wonderful and unusual place! It offers something for most. The myriad selection of plants are divided by types, so, if you are looking for grasses, they are all together; if trees are your preference get ready to walk through a forest of an area dedicated to trees! Seasonal favorites are easily accessible in the entry area, across from the information booth.
Hate to shop for plants, and your husband loves to? Ladies, there is a great gift shop indoors and the main thoroughfare displays beautiful garden objects that are hard to pass up!
But the kids will be bored?? No way, there is a clean, well-managed indoor area for all to enjoy the exotic birds. These are rescues that are now in their forever home! I remember seeing turtles in there, too.
Want your kids to be free to run around outside? Take them to the back of the property to see the Emus and Peacocks safely fenced in, but fun to look at!
My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE spot of them all...tucked into a serene, tree-shaded space is a bench...the bench faces a beautifully landscaped water feature. You can rest in the shade and listen to the water cascade over the rock waterfall, spilling into the pond and disappearing over a rocky stream. The bright flicker of koi makes the water come alive.
Maybe not the BEST part, but something we appreciate a lot...PP makes Tuesdays "seniors day", during which they generously offer 10% off for seniors!
Since discovering PP and considering quality, quantity and price, we decided that they will always be our "go to" place to...
ย ย ย Read moreWe hired Pender Pines to do a relatively large landscaping renovation several years ago and were happy with the results. A year ago we hired them to change our "builder" landscaping to include removing sod, adding rock, borders, mulch removing old plants and putting in new plants. We were told the mulch would me finely shredded, but there were large chunks of wood included, the sod was supposed to be removed to make a planting area but instead, they simply killed the grass... some of which is growing in the planted areas. They put 9 lantana plants in our front bed and within weeks, the leaves turned brown and holes appeared in the leaves. After a number of calls, they came out and said that it was a pest and to spray them with an insecticide. I used the insecticide that they recommended and it did not help. Seven of them were totally dead within a couple of months. They were difficult to get a hold of and we actually had to go to there to show them the pictures. We were told that they did not guarantee perennial plants. We explained that they were notified of a problem within weeks of the planting and also reminded them that we spent a little over $10,000 with them on our two projects. The manager said that is states on the back of their contract that they don't warrantee any perennials and that was the end of the conversation. Needless to say, we will not be using Pender Pines Garden Center for any upcoming...
ย ย ย Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. While looks may be deceiving as their plants are some of the nicest around, this comes at a cost. What may look like a beautiful establishment is clouded by a veil of pretentious management that mistreats its employees and customers as often as the weather changes. I had a close friend that worked for this poor excuse for a business, who told me of the way one of the people in charge there treated the employees and their customers. I believed him of course but witnessed this man, John Shwarz, berating an employee in front of myself and my family. His voice was raised, the lady was in tears. Had I known at the time that this man was in charge I would have approached him right there. He saw us and likely knew we were displeased and that we were probably going to find whomever was in charge, so we went to the front to ask to speak with the manager. They asked why and we told them, which they already could tell something that likely happens often was taking place. They tried to get him to come to the front to speak with us and him trying to avoid the situation refused to do so. We left our stuff at the counter and left, refusing to do business there again and vowing to ensure everyone we could think of knew not to give them their business as...
