Sutton Lake is a 1,520-acre reservoir on the Elk River in Braxton and Webster counties, West Virginia. Sutton Lake is located just upstream of Sutton. It was authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1938. Construction of the dam began in 1956 and was completed in 1961.

We can't stop talking about trip it was over the top !! 5 Stars all the way !! It was so peaceful , relaxing and beautiful it was like floating on a mirror !!! .. No Cell phone service was the BEST !!! Get away from it all. Although you could get cell phone service in some areas, I kept my phone off for the whole trip it was wonderful !! Beds were surprisingly comfortable. Cabin was so roomy we had 8 & 1/2 People . Half person being my 4 month old grandson He had a blast too !! We didn't feel cramped at all . Beds were perfect height to change & dress Baby !! We Did runout of water last day only 4 of us showered for the weekend LOL ... Only thing That could have been better was half the lights on upstairs deck (solar Lights) was burned out & other ones were very dim. we brought some of our own solar lights so we were fine . There is an outlet up on top deck as well we will bring some string lights next time for sure. Inside cabin windows was really dirty . which was a bummer being on house boat you want to look out the windows we washed them but would have been nice if we didn't have too. We can't wait to go again !!!! booking for 2022 ASAP !!

I recently attended a birthday party here at one of the pavilions on the hill above the lake. There is a breathtaking view from this area. There is also a small playground located right there with swings, a tubular playground set, and a spinner. A small sidewalk joins everything. The grounds were clean and the trash cans were empty with new bags. The kids really enjoyed it. There was water available at the pump. I'm assuming it's drinkable, but didn't try it as I just wasn't sure. I'd be interested in knowing if it is good to drink.

This area was absolutely beautiful and the weather was just perfect. The surrounding hardwood trees and brush were just starting to show their Fall colors, mostly in golds and yellows. Very few people were at this lake, but it was when school is in session, and I was there on a weekday. Well worth the drive to see the views of the lake and surrounding foliage!

Do not put "sutton lake" as your destination. You won't get there! It will take you on a 2 hour drive on 1 lane gravel roads, many turn offs on more narrow gravel roads to end up at a dead end for a wild life hunting reservoir and no lake in sight. We knew we were in trouble when at one turn there was a sign that said "your GPS is wrong, dead end". To get there, PLEASE, put in "sutton...
