So I had a very frightening but very fun time there when I was younger... But the frightening part was...? I almost fell down the water fall... I was only about 6 years old and no one had told my parents about the age "requirements/recommendations" for doing the hike. My dad thankfully was prepared for the worst and my dad saved me and my brother (who had jumped in behind me to try and save me) with a rope that he had in his backpack. Luckily he had 3 ropes with him because the first rope he had thrown got went down the waterfall and the second we had finally caught. Other than that the gorge is very beautiful. The rock at the end where you can slide down is very fun and I 100% recommend going, but make sure you ask everyone about the recommendations for ages hiking it. Why I am giving this 4 stars is because of that, my sister was only 4, I was 6, and my brothers were 10 & 13 and not one of the workers who had been there hadn't even talked about ages to climb the gorge. Other than that I recommend talula gorge with all my heart to at least see the water fall at the beginning and to at least climb the stairs, totally...
Read moreTallulah Gorge is in the mountains of N GA. We stayed at the campground in the park which had electric and water hookups. Choose your site carefully - some are near the road into the park. Nice clean campground, average size sites. You can hike to the rim of the gorge right from the campground. There are many viewing platforms along the trails which were busy on a Saturday with good fall color. You can make a reservation to go down into the gorge, 100 per day, first come basis. There are several back country sites as well as 2 trails that are off limits without a permit. The town of Tallulah Falls is nearby with one old timey type general store and one restaurant...
Read moreThe short class you take at the visitor center to receive a permit to hike the gorge does not prepare you for the actual hike down to Sliding Rock and back out. It took my wife and I about 2 hours to get to the bottom. We hung out for about an hour, swimming, sliding and chilling, before starting our "70 degree" rock climb to the top. It took us about 45 minutes to reach the top moving at a steady pace with the cliff of death about 15ft to our right. Then it was about 2 miles to get back to the visitor center by unmarked nature trails. Pack out what you pack in and be prepared for dangerous conditions...
