I recently visited Rocky Point Golf Course on February 21st at 10:30 AM, and unfortunately, I have to share a disappointing experience regarding the service we received from the staff behind the counter and the starter.
We had booked two players through GolfNow and arranged for a third player, who holds a Sports Authority Golf Local Membership, by calling the number listed on the membership card. However, upon our arrival, we were rudely informed that only the two GolfNow tee times were recorded, and our third player’s tee time was nowhere to be found.
The staff's tone was unprofessional, and they showed no willingness to assist us in resolving the issue that stemmed from their own reservation system.
In an attempt to help solve the situation, we suggested that they send us off on the back nine, as no one had made the turn yet. Regrettably, this reasonable request was met with refusal, and the staff continued to be unhelpful and dismissive. Their lack of service and professionalism was quite shocking.
To make matters worse, we have yet to receive a refund for the two tee times we paid for but ultimately did not use due to their inability to address the booking error made by their call center.
Overall, this experience has left a sour taste, and I cannot recommend Rocky Point Golf Course based on the service we encountered. I hope they improve their customer service...
Read moreAbsolutely one of the best values in golf during the busy season here in the Tampa Bay Area.
You pay roughly half of what you would to play other courses for a morning tee time and get comparable course conditions from tee to green for a Par 71 layout.
I just played here again this week and had the company of the GM Jim Garrison for the first nine holes.
Jim really does care about the condition of the golf course and even nit picked some things you might not notice on and around the edges of greens.
Another key to a well-maintained golf course is how the bunkers play. I had the misfortune of finding my way into five greenside bunkers during my round and I enjoyed near perfect conditions on four of those five shots to make a sand save.
My group played the blue tees and we all agree it plays longer than the listed 6300 yards because there's almost always wind on this open piece of land near the bay.
Many Par 4's and Par 5's play rather long and the inverted bowl nature of many greens makes it difficult to hit and hold a number of greens in regulation.
Sure, it is a municipal golf course owned and operated by the Tampa Sports Authority, but the municipal feel comes more from that percentage of players who come out here simply to drink, act stupid and ignorantly think shooting 115 is somehow the golf...
Read moreWe had an absolutely fantastic time at Rockypoint Golf Club in Tampa Bay! The course was in excellent shape, which is especially impressive considering it had rained nearly 5 inches earlier in the week. The greens rolled true, the fairways were lush, and the overall conditions were top-notch.
We rented two sets of clubs, and I have to say they were some of the best rental clubs I’ve ever seen. They had stiff shafts and included this year’s quality Callaway gear — AI Smoke and Paradigm drivers — which made the round even more enjoyable. These weren’t your typical “beater” rentals; they felt like something you’d pull right off the rack at a pro shop.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the whole experience was just smooth and fun from start to finish. Between the course conditions, the high-quality equipment, and the great atmosphere, Rockypoint is definitely a must-play when you’re in the Tampa Bay area. We can’t wait...
