We stayed at studio A room during 13 days aprox, it was not supper clean, we had to clean a little bit, but it was ok after cleaning. The carpet was ok. The room didnt smell bad or anything, but the bath tube curtain had a dirty kinda stinky smell we just deal with. The bath towels are not white, they are beige/yellowish?! (Im not fan of colored towels, but they seemed clean). The table chairs are not comfortable, they are too high for the table and since they are not new, they move "funny" when you sit, you need to take care not to fall down. the bed is a queen bed, not king (in case it matters to you). The view is nice, the room is kinda cozy, I think it just has a bad furniture distribution. It is safe, however I was worried about wild life, (but I guess I am just not used to this enviroment?) we saw from our window room and heard coyotes passing by two times during our stay. They are pet friendly (you pay abut $20 per day per pet. We have a small one). Its 30 min away from Taos downtown & about 5 min away from Ski Valley. The parking lot is just right in front and we always had our space available. For being in front of the road, the place is quiet enough, neighbors are normally quiet, unless they have kids or the renters are teenagers. If people come back late, theyll wake you up, the stepping stairs sound (wood), talking, luggage pulling... but as overall, it was nice enough staying there. A bit expensive I think.

The view was great from the front porch. The kitchen was decently stocked with pots, skillets, utensils, knives, and plates/bowls/cups for simple meals. We cooked most of our meals and brought the dry goods from home and stopped in Taos to get the cold stuff. The village has markets but Taos has better a better selection at better prices. We brought our own things for making special items like baking a birthday cake. The oven temperature was calibrated and the cake came out great. We didn't use the grill but one was available on the porch. It rained daily while we were there so the chair cushions on the porch were always wet we had brought our own folding chairs so didn't matter. We could have taken the cushions off and used the chairs there. The porch view was awesome. We used the space heater in the bathroom most mornings but otherwise just opened and closed the windows to control the temperature inside the cabin. Window screens would be a good addition to cut down on the bugs getting in. We used the hot tub at the Alpine Village Suites after a day of hiking so that was nice.

The location sits 1.5 south of the ski hill. The cabin is cute but could probably use a little love. No AC in the unit and windows were pretty difficult to open to let air in. I was in unit D and do not recommend if you want peace and quiet (you can hear everything!). Upon bringing this to management’s attention they kindly relocated me to unit C pictured above at no additional cost. A+ for customer service! They have plenty of fans in the room and the kitchen is perfect for making your own meals. All in all the stay is great for the cost but please get those windows replaced!

I will state positive and negative feedback below. FIRST the POSITIVE: 1) unit is a good size and can accommodate up to 7 people with the rollaway bed in the closet 2) location of the unit is close to trails, peaks, river and other attractions suitable during summer and winter. 3) The unit includes a kitchen. 4) Wifi works great inside the unit. SECOND the NEGATIVE: 1) unit is old and needs MANY upgrades 2) Does NoT include Air conditioning so it gets really hot during summer 3) the upstairs is difficult to cool down even with the windows open all night and using a fan to ventilate. 4) Only 1 bathroom and it’s really small with very poor ventilation and ceiling above the bathtub needs repair/care. 5) Housekeeper needs to put more effort in to cleaning and stocking items in the unit. 6) Management needs to include a list of instruction or a posting in the unit on where to discard trash, increase temperature of the fridge, how to cool down room, etc. 7) Extremely poor network inside/outside the unit and there is no phone in the room - at times I tried to call the front office using my cell ph from the unit and I couldn’t even get through. 8) Include extra sheets or advise if housekeeping will be provided and how often, etc. 9) the closet in the room is more of a storage then a functional useable closet.

When I communicated some of the concerns to management team, there were no apology whatsoever instead some excuses such as “I spoke to the housekeeper and they totally owned it, it was their fault” OR “this room is occupied only 50% of the time” OR “generally people come to ski and they get tired so they pass out”

I know this review very detailed and long but I do believe that if the recommendations were taken in to consideration along with some TLC this unit would be a very good...

Cottam's Lodge is 1-1/2 miles down the top of the mountain from the check in location. When we drove back down the mile and a half and pulled into the lodge parking lot, we noticed the door to our suite was wide open. When we went in, we found out why. The overwhelming smell from the cleaner that was used was horrendous. The housekeeper must have left the door and windows open to air it out. It did not work. Ironically, all of the soaps and lotions in the bathroom were environmentally friendly....not the cleaner. Instant headache. We had to go down to Taos for a performance and when we came back up it was about 11:00 p.m. That's when we noticed that the smoke alarm in the unit below us was beeping...incessantly. The mountain had no cell service so I couldn't call anyone to fix the problem. The next morning when I went to check out, there was no one at the desk. There was a note that said, "will be back, call for assistance." Kind of hard to call for assistance when there's no cell service! I waited around, then left and came back. The second time STILL no one there. I had to walk around to find someone. All in all -- the suite had the potential to be lovely. Instead I ended up with a raging headache from the overuse of cleaner and no sleep from a faulty smoke alarm. For the amount of money spent, I recommend visitors try...
