The ride up to the arb is nice--there's lots of native habitat for wildlife. But the arb itself is peculiar. Grassy lawn and lots of (mostly unremarkable) ornamental species of no use to local wildlife or migrating birds. No canopy. No leaf litter. Were these botanical odds and sods a wealthy person's collectibles once upon a time? Seems really out of touch. Needs to be re-wilded badly. It feels like a suburban landscaping nursery. This is a really outmoded vision of our relationship to greenspace. It would be more compelling if they simply stopped maintaining it and let it go to seed.
