Studio Theatre At Tierra Del Sol — Local services in The Villages

Saw Urinetown last year and loved it. Saw La Cage this year and was embarrassed for the cast. It's selling well but anyone who knows the show, I imagine, will be equally disappointed. George was the only character who seemed to understand the material and the nuances of his character. His voice was also the best in the cast. I know this show well so perhaps I expected it to be what it should be. A love story that has some amazing musical numbers, great dancers who can CAN CAN, and characters who understand the balance between acting campy vs being a forced character and self-indulgent. I took a friend who didn't know the show and found many moments "odd", and asked me about it. I was unable to understand the casting choices and/or decisions made for many of the characters. There's a "bird" number that was beyond comprehension. Regardless of my disappointment in the production, I'm glad to see that shows of this nature are being produced within the villages. It's unfortunate that a beautiful show was turned into a cliche of various gay...
