This place is the definition of a hidden gem! You could drive right past it without knowing it held BY FAR the best selection and quality of wood in all of New England in my opinion. Every length, width, thickness, dimensional and slabs you could ever need. Best of all, the people who work there are SALT OF THE EARTH. I walked in for the first time today, was greeted by Ben, and instantly felt welcome and wanted. He asked me what brought me in, which this time was just to get a little bit of walnut and maple for cutting boards. I'm only a hobbyist woodworker and being a hobbyist woodworker, sometimes you don't get the time of day at other lumber yards. NOT HERE!!! Ben took me through the whole place to show me everything they had, everything they could do, and actually cared why I was there and appreciated me coming there. We have been buying wood at Barrette’s since 1986 when we built our first house. Three houses later, we are still going back for the best quality woods we can find. Barrette’s has supplied lumber used for wide pine floors, live edge counters and custom furniture including those hard to find native hardwoods for special projects. Their inventory is amazing and it is especially great for an amatuer woodworker to have a wide variety of smaller board lengths (less than 4ft) yet never did I feel like I was wasting their time with my small purchase.
