We visited in early August 2023. We were there as a Scout's BSA summer camp. The cabins/bunk houses were amazing especially compared to your typical scout BSA summer camp. It was very clean. There were a couple of cobwebs in the corners and a bug here and there but then again you're in the woods! There was plenty of lighting and electricity in cabins were a plus. There looked like they had heaters but not AC units. The bunk houses were furnished with bunk beds (that could be unbunked) with padding so you need to bring your own linens. Most scouts brought sleeping bags they just laid on top. We also all brought fans that could be plugged in. So we were very comfortable. There weren't a TON of outlets but there were multiple. The bathrooms the scouts said was the nicest they've ever seen for a summer camp. Most showered every day (apparently not typical of most summer camps) haha. The off room for the adults had 2 beds in which was nice and a small desk and closet. We never had any issues. The punch houses are symmetrical. Each bunk house had 2 sides which majority of the bunks where. Then in the middle there were 2 rooms on each window side that held 2 beds, a desk, a closet and a sink only. Even those these rooms opened to both halves of the bunk house we kept the other one locked and vice versa so each of the small rooms would open into only one of the bunk rooms. These are where the adult leaders stayed. In the middle there were 2 bathrooms, one opened up to each end of the bunk houses. The bathroom consisted one one large shower with curtain and detachable shower head which looked like it was ADA compliant. There was also a seat that folded down from the wall. There were 2 sinks and 2 toilet stalls with sliding locked doors.
The other facilities like the gym were great. They had a AC unit on the side of the building which was interesting but it worked. It was nice and cool in there. There were 4 classrooms up top on the second level where different merit badge classes were held each day. Great for meeting rooms for other groups looking to rent the space for a retreat. The dinning hall was a little tight for the number of people we had. Many people ate outside. It did get quite warm in there at dinner time but lunch and breakfast it was still relatively cool. The kitchen area also looked really nice although I didn't spend much time in there myself as I was not on cooking staff. Every building is very close to each other. Our scouts are used to walking a quarter or half mile sometimes between program areas or even the parking lots. Here I could walk from the furthest bunk house on one side of camp to the dinning hall at the other in 5 mins easy. And it was all basically flat even though you're on a mountain. The one downside of this particular campground compared to others at Catoctin Mountain Park is the lack of a swimming pool on site. We shuttle the scouts to the pool and back for different classes.
All the scouts in my unit enjoyed their experience and stay at camp round meadow. All said they would come back and recommend it to the others to do the same next summer. This was our first experience at Camp Round Meadow and it was amazing. It also probably helped that the weather all week in August was in the mid 80s with a nice breeze every day. Maybe it was...
Read moreCame here on a relatively warm July day (about 85°) and even though the facilities are decent, the AC units are very small and cannot cool one room with several people in it. You can barely feel it at all in several common areas, and AC is nonexistent in the sleeping areas. Granted, our group was rather large. There is barely any relief from the heat if you’re here in the summer, so be prepared. Restrooms were clean, showers seemed nice and updated (I didn’t try them though). Kitchen seemed updated and had a huge fridge. Bring your own hand soap for the restrooms in the dormitories, they are not supplied...
