Palisades Viewpoint — Local services in Tieton

The Palisades formation is truly magnificent without a doubt. However, the unfortunate reality is the same for many scenic vistas in the Cascades and western Washington: the abundant precipitation is conducive to rapid regrowth of the coniferous forest, resulting in a diminished opportunity to observe whatever was intended to be seen. I would support whatever effort it would take to restore these sightlines through selective tree removal, there are zero endemic taxa of either flora or fauna that would be negatively...

The view of the basalt columns cliff is excellent! And the informational plaques about them are very informative. The one downside is the view of Mt. Rainier is mostly covered due to the growth of the pine trees. I believe the Mt. Rainier view used to be wonderful, but the trees make it difficult to see. But the trees are healthy...

The last time I stopped here was in the 1990s. I seem to remember a short trail down the hill and an amazing closeup view of the Palisades. I looked for the trail yesterday and couldn't find it. The USFS must have closed...
