John's Food Center — Local services in Topeka

When we moved to Topeka ( almost 3 years ago) John's was the most convenient place, close to home. They had great prices and awesome deals on drinks and cigarettes. If you were missing an ingredient for your meal... John's HAD it. We miss the Original OWNER...

This past year John retired and sold his place. Things have gone downhill at an astounding rate. They are closing early ( earlier than posted), the new clerks are not friendly ( rude to be exact), the prices for off brands are higher than name brand, items are outdated on the shelf, they don't have much produce any longer, and what they have.... Is not fresh. They now offer hot food, that isn't hot, it's not fresh, and it's over priced. It's becoming more of a 'gas station" and less like a neighborhood market. It's sad that what used to be a friendly neighborhood store that was a ONE STOP SHOP, has turned into another CASH COW MARKET. I thought they originally cared about the community but have since proven otherwise. Suggestions are no longer welcomed, in fact they become offended or insulted when asked about certain things. I miss the old days at John's..... Where I could go in and get what I needed and have fun friendly clerks that loved their job and customers. THE FEW THAT ARE STILL THERE ARE AMAZING LADIES!!!!! I miss visiting with them. In a big city it was nice to have that " SMALL TOWN CHARM" and it's sad how it has disappeared...... I wish more people would get on here and give HONEST, UPDATED REVIEWS.... Maybe if they see how the community truly views the changes, it might improve the place... Here's to...

there was a very clear change when the ownership switched. went from a adorable homey little store to a cheap trashy last resort stop. staff went from friendly and welcoming with a southern joy to sour, impatient and rude. shelves went from always stocked and rich with everything you could need, to empty, looking like a yardsale with prices changing every other day. went from an easy 5 stars to thinking 1 is too generous....

This little store has the biggest heart. My consumer needs are always filled and walking through their door is like a family reunion! John is meticulous, always making sure his store is clean, orderly and stocked. His whole staff are wonderful "people" people and all play a huge role in making each visit a real pleasant experience. Few stores exist today with this kind of "neighborly" atmosphere. Keep up the...
