Pardon the long review.....
We weren't subscribers of SMA, however, a friend told us about them regarding a very specific repair we needed. After viewing the one specific video (regarding said repair) we called, explained our need (and that we are not too far from SMA) and Eric agreed to take a look at the vehicle. Once he ascertained the needed repair, agreed to do the repair, we scheduled an appointment.
Going to SMA saved us a fair amount in labor not to mention that he did a superb job on our vehicle. That being said SMA is not "around the corner" from us so using SMA for other maintenance and typical worn out parts replacement wouldn't be logical.
A couple of years back the friend who pointed us towards SMA had a major repair needed. Eric was kind enough to offer our friend some advice and wisdom as to why SMA wasn't the best choice because of the time and logistics of a major repair. With his advice our friend then used one of the very good local shops near us.
We've watched a few of SMA's videos and because of Eric's experience and forthright approach we've not only learned a few tips & tricks for the repairs we tackle but have also come to understand more about where and when to go for maintenance, worn out parts replacement and for those unique or special repairs when an Eric O. is needed.
So for the naysayers in the reviews (or comments) maybe stop and listen, actually be a reasoned mature adult instead of dissing someone because he won't "just return your call" from 500 miles away. We're only 37 miles from SMA and understand perfectly why this excellent mechanic can't attend to every person merely because they've watched one of his vids. That's just plain silly (they answered our call because we actually live reasonably nearby).
We're thankful to everyone at SMA for repairing our vehicle and glad we have had the opportunity to enjoy some of Eric's humor, outlook on life and his folksy wisdom on vehicles and repairs. If we ever find ourselves moving closer to the shop we would gladly let SMA take care of the repairs we aren't able to perform on our subies (even the rusty PIA ball joints, haha).
Thanks Eric. You and your wife are truly good folks and...
Read moreWell here we go......What can i say about South Main Auto Repair,,,,,,, quite honestly what i can say is, i really, really, really like this channel, now lets get one thing straight, i tinker with cars, i am no way a hard core know it all ( " car guy " ) so to speak, mechanics is not really my thing, but i'm still interested in doing what i can on my own cars to save money, i'm more into motorcycles but that's by the by,,, the thing that grabs me with S.M.A.R channel & Eric O, is that it is shear entertainment, and there is something for every one, Eric O takes you on a journey with nearly all the things that comes his way that he thinks we the public will at some point have trouble with, now you don't have to be an American car owner to take full advantage of what Eric offers, after all, a car is a car and they all have the save cheep crap on them that breaks down, and yes some repairs are really in depth, but he and Vanessa AKA Mrs O, add humour into the shows, and both have really grown in font of the camera ( cue the dramatic music & a can of break clean ).... and we the viewer, are also taken into the family circle , with their family life , hunting trips, Mrs O doing her own car repairs, BBQ's, and back to Eden garden project. quite honestly we as viewer's are literally spoilt for choice. Now there probably are better car channels out there, it's all down to taste, if your into hot rods, rat cars, F1, NASCAR etc, etc, etc then those channels are out there just waiting for you, but if your just into how to fault find, fix and maintain enjoy your vehicle then guys like Eric and the SMA channel could be the place for you to sit back, relax and watch a honest mechanic work his magic on vehicles that even dealerships give up on, Eric if i had a hat i would take it off to you for doing a great job well done and keeping us wanna be mechanics interested in what you do to keep folks on the road. Eric should you read this please pass by regards on to Mrs O and the family your...
Read moreI'm not a customer as I live in Australia. But I wish we had this man here looking after our cars. I've watched a lot of his videos and can honestly say this is the type of service I was used to that no longer seems to be the case in most places I've dealt with. He is honest, straight up tells it like it is, and doesn't overcharge or unsellable his customers at all. He charges a fair price for labour and appears to charge near what it costs him in parts. That's why he's always busy. I'm 70, started off my working life as an apprentice motor mechanic didn't finish, wasn't for me. But I learnt enough, especially off of a good old-time mechanic who shows the same respect for customer cars as this man does. I'm relearning a lot and also learning more, especially tracing the causes of electrical faults like he does. Thankfully, we don't use salt on our roads here at all, even in the areas where snow falls during winter. Basically, because the roads don't get covered that much in snow and ice. We have Black Ice spots at times, but it depends on the time of day. Dawn is the worst and nighttime. I must say, though, I'm surprised that some of the cars are still on the road. Here, they wouldn't pass registration unless you go to a dodgy inspection place, of course.
Wish him, his wife, and his family all the best for the rest of 2024 and into the future. You're a Great Mate, we would say here in...
