Cottage Garden Farm — Local services in Town of Farmington

We have been to Cottage Gardens frequently. We bought our spinner there Love it. But after the way we were treated 6/18/2016 we will never be back. We found a lovely glass solar lantern, and politely asked for assistance to get it down. The price tag we could see from where it was hanging stated 42.99 they brought it to the register and there was another tag on the top that indicated 62.99. The two staff members at the register did not know what to do. They asked for assistance from a woman that was in a back room. She looked at the two stickers, immediately tore off the lower priced tag and told me the local artist would never sell it for the lower price, but she could call her. I agreed to her making the call. She then hung the lantern where we had found it, and returned to sorting something in a drawer in the back room. The other staff just kept waiting on other customers while I stood by the check out. No one even looked at me again. No offer to spilt the difference. No attempt to call the artist. Have always loved this great gift shop with its serious side helpings of garden and clothing items. Now it's improved tremendously by moving (on the same site) into a huge new building with much more space! Keep in mind this is not a box store - it's a small boutique business. Prices are going to be higher than Target and Walmart, but I do not find pricing unreasonable whatsoever. Even my husband - a notorious, um, "bargain shopper" - commented that prices were surprisingly reasonable! I was especially, and pleasantly, surprised by the pricing on the oval rock garden sculptures. (See my seriously poor quality picture, sorry - another reviewer here posted a much better image.) Very cute items but poor customer service. I am not from around the area and was in town for the day. I purchased a $40 picture/sign. I didn't open it right away (it was covered in bubblewrap) as it was a Christmas sign and I wasn't decorating yet. When I did open it, an entire piece was completely missing and one piece was broken. When contacting the store I was told they could do nothing for me except an even exchange (based on the fact that it was over 7 days since I purchased and I couldn't find the receipt)which isn't feasible based on how far away I live.
