Whenever I am in the Saratoga region it is important to me that I buy cheese here. They have been making the cheese in this store the same way since the 1920s, and I agree with my 96-year-old grandmother that is the best she's in the world.
I love and appreciate the opportunity to feel like I am stepping back into time and into my grandmother's childhood every time I walk through these doors.
Besides cheese, I always buy candy. The variety of candy is interesting and unique. They still sell candy cigarettes here as well as other penny style candies that make me nostalgic for my own childhood in the 1980s. I also use this as an opportunity to try a candy I have never seen or heard before, my cousin bought a pack of Violet hard candies which were surprisingly delightful and I bought clove gum.
I usually also walk out of the store with some baked good. The baked goods are made locally at a family farm in Ballston Spa that's been in business for at least a half century. Usually I buy a bread (pumpkin or zucchini) and yesterday I bought a peach raspberry pie.
The lady who works at the store has been there for many years. Sometimes when I go in she seems very busy and is about her business, and other times is available to chat. She has lived in the area for her lifetime and is very knowledgeable about the history of this shop. I feel lucky to have learned some of the stores stories.

Read moreBest place ever!!! They offer a selection of candies from my childhood and childhood before me. They have some you didnt even know existed as well as the amazing Italian candies that are pricey but her prices are the same as others. They also have a selection of cheese, spreadable, curds and bricks. Eat them fast as they are nl ot filled with preservatives and will spoil quickly unlike the stuff in a typical grocery store. The cheeses here have far more flavor and once you start with the cheese curds....you won't stop until the bag is empty. I'm guilty of this every time!! They also have homemade pies and breads as well as a selection of dip mixes, mustards, IPA and ciders, wine and pickles. In the back of the shop is 2 rooms with gifts to purchase as well. They are items you wont just find anywhere and I have done Christmas shopping there and everyone loved their gifts. I recommend this place to anyone who will listen!!! My husband took me here when we started dating and I was hooked after the first visit. 5 years later still a...
Read moreCharming little store with unique choices but I have no idea where anybody gets that the lady running this place is friendly. She's miserable, doesn't greet you when you walk in and she treated me like I was an idiot when I asked her about the apple totes she was selling outside of the store. Pretty rude and made me feel like leaving immediately, regardless of how bad I wanted the old fashioned candy I had picked out already. Other than that detail, they do have wonderful bakes breads and candy choices that you won't find anywhere else. Of course the cheese choices are pretty cool, too. Haven't been back since the apple...
