the amount of love we received from Hicks was unimaginable. We walked in and we were greeted and treated like we were long lost family / friends. We immediately felt comfortable, taken care of, we felt like we basically walked into "home"
The amount of warmth that was brought from Dave was just unexplainable, so much energy and friendliness literally immediately. Not only was everything we bought absolutely delicious (from the fudge, the cider but the donuts!? The Donuts!!! Amazing. The apple butter, the applesauce!!) But everything just felt so comforting.
We were then given a tasting in the speakeasy (which wow, literally outstanding) from Barb. Barb treated us also like long lost family/friends! Barbs charisma, humor and and just full on personality had us laughing and feeling at home, in some place that we had never even been before!!! Barb was such an absolute amazing delight!
We felt so love in such a short period of time, and how much love we see comes out of this orchard. As an art person myself, seeing somewhere with such a following taking on small & local art communities really warms my heart and makes me know, kindness still exists. And goes a long way! We can just tell Hicks loves their community, and that really absolutely shines through.
We cannot wait to go back and...
Read moreTHE GOOD: I absolutely LOVE hicks. I go there for my birthday every year and all of the berry picking. They even make my favorite wine. All of the products they habe from chapstick to salad dressing, donuts and everything in between are wonderful
THE BAD: my most recent trip to hicks for Apple picking was robbery. We purchased our bags based on price, as we all do. Money is a little tight, so we got one small bag. $18. We took pictures, picked pur apples and went to pay before heading inside for donuts. The person running the check out said we owed $36, DOUBLE what we agreed to when we got our bag. Flabbergasted, I tried to explain that we only got one small bag because it was the cheapest. He said "yeah, but honey crisp are more" scrambling for the money I told him no one told us that, and something should let the guys handing out the bags to inform entering cars of that. His response was "yeah don't worry about it". We went straight home, no money for donuts, and now an upset child. Thanks a lot.
If you want to charge by type of apple and not bag, even if it's just one kind. There needs to be a sign, customers should be told upon entering. Not blindsided into paying almost $40 for ONE Small bag of apples. Good thing I had the money on me, or we would have had to glue them back on...
Read moreSo much more than we expected!! We were leaving Vermont looking to get last minute cider donuts to bring home and all of the locations in Vermont were not close to our route. Found this on Yelp search and called (since it was a Monday) to make sure they’d have donuts. When we arrived, it was bustling with activity despite the weekday. The yard had many picnic tables to sit out, rest rooms, and corn hole boards. The store had various antiques (we picked up a beautiful bean pot), seasonings, jams, condiments, dip mixes, quilts, cute farm-related kids’ clothing, homemade dog biscuits, and of course, bags of picked apples. They have a window where you order the type (sugared or plain) and quantity of fresh made apple cider donuts. There is also a winery on site that was very quaint. The parking was ample and looked out over the orchard where you can pick your own apples. A wonderful surprise just outside of Vermont - definitely a...
