This was our first time going to Demon Acres. To skip the ticket booth, we decided to buy our tickets online. We went with the combination ticket, which included three attractions in total. Once we got to the entrance, an employee told us that there was a 2-hour wait time for each attraction. We immediately regretted buying our tickets ahead of time as there were no refunds and no way to redeem our tickets on a later date. We arrived at the location at 8:30 PM, which meant that we would be waiting for six hours to experience all three attractions and leaving no sooner than 2 AM.
We agreed to stick it out and see how things unfolded, hoping that the two-hour wait time would quickly pass by. To get through all three attractions, you have to begin at the hayride before proceeding to the other queues along the way. At first, we were in high spirits. While waiting for the hayride, we were interacted with by a variety of scare actors. They made the first hour of the wait fun and were incredibly personable. However, by the second half of our wait, our mood and the energy of the others around us began to rapidly deteriorate. We went from semi-regular encounters with scare actors to none. At the end, before finally getting to the front of the line, a scare actor came by, but by that point we were already deflated.
Once on the hayride. we were told that the scare actors could touch us. This really concerned us as we had done our research beforehand and there was no indication that they would be able to do that. Had their website or any signage indicated there would be touching, we would have reconsidered going. We also did not want to receive too much of a scare. According to the sign leading into the hayride, folks who did not want to be as scared could sit in the middle of the cart. However, that was simply not the case. We were interacted with just as often as everyone else.
Throughout the hayride, there were several really impressive set pieces. There was plenty of attention to detail, great lighting, and a diverse array of sets. We were definitely satisfied with the hayride portion of the park.
However, by the time we got to the line for the second attractions, we found out the wait times were just as long. While weighing whether or not we were still willing to wait it out for another two hours, we found out that one of the rooms in the first haunted hour (an abandoned prison) was an unclean restroom that left one guest nauseous from the smell. Candidly, that was the final nail in the coffin for us.
At the end of the day, there needs to be substantial updates in both the signage and structure of the park. The website should mention possible wait times and warnings about the nature of each haunt (e.g., touching included, possible phobias...). Additionally, there needs to be a better system to prevent long lines, such as selling out for the evening to prevent unbearable wait times. The design of the park was great, but not...
Read moreIt had been 3 years since our first time at Demon Acres when we went Sunday, and it was even better than we remembered. It's obvious that the owner/s have put a lot of money, time and energy into creating the best pro haunt in NY State. The hay ride is hands down one of the best we've ever experienced, making the other 2 attractions seem like a bonus for the cost of admission. Massive props line the trail on both sides, ensuring that no matter where you sit, you get a fully emersive experience. Being hardcore haunt enthusiasts, we tried to soak in as much of the impressive details on both sides as we could, but it was the massive gateways built for the different scenes along the path that really blew us away. The tractor could have stopped for ten minutes at each entry point and it still wouldn't have been enough time to fully take in the details put into them. Kudos for the jaw drop you got out of me. The prison escape was different this year, less interactive than when we were there 3 years ago, but the new maze was built with the same attention to detail as the hay ride. It was a fun walk through. The Demon's Den facade is awesome. Inside you'll find the classic haunted house experience, with some revolting twists. Great fun! Props to the scare actors, all of whom seemed to really get into their parts and create some good jump scares. Their dedication and enthusiasm made the house extra creepy!
Wait times were short, but it was a Sunday. Lines were much longer when we were there a few years ago. Even then, wait times weren't excessive.
Surely, the best of Central NY haunts, and well worth the 2 hour...
Read moreMy husband and I went to the Haunted House attraction at Demon Acres this year - aptly named - Demon House.
Pros - family friendly Lots of upgraded Hollywood style affects (the animatronic dragon that sticks his head out of the castle style front of the "house" roaring and blowing steam was an unexpected surprise!) Many different attractions (escape rooms, haunted hayride, jailbreak, etc), affordably priced for the value.
Cons - It's like going through TSA at the airport to get in - complete with metal detector and pat downs. A little over the top considering it's literally in cow country in the middle of nowhere. Ticket sales offered online but there's zero benefit to buying in advance online. No discount (same exact prices at the door). You still have to stand in line when you get there BEFORE you even get in line for the attraction - they scan your QR code on your phone and present you with a paper ticket to go then stand in line at the attraction - completely pointless. The haunted house is more like a fun house (but again some cool effects) but it's very dark and there's many spots you have to duck down super low and go through very small child sized doorways. Older folks and young children would definately have trouble navigating (I'm 43 and cracked my head on one of the low hanging doorways) a room actually tilts as you walk through.
So overall fun and worth the money, they've invested a bunch of money on effects but I think in general they've gotten a bit big for their britches with the online sales and over the top security at...
