For a prior cow pasture in the middle of nowhere, it's a gem. It's not a high end course by any means, but it definitely has charm.
I hated 1.) Bunkers: dirt and clay mixture that leaves much to be desired; 2.) Tee Boxes: if they aren't hard as a rock, they are overgrown; 3.) Rough: inconsistent length all over the course - parts are overgrown and others freshly cutdown - lost a couple balls clearly in play due to 3"+ rough; 4.) Fairways: a good portion are bare ground.. not divots, just large swaths of grassless dirt. My partner and I have to agree to put fairway hits under grass to make things fair....we aren't professionals and need all the help we can get.
I loved 1.) Greens: rolled very smooth. A bit inconsistent (that word again) from hole to hole but nice; 2.) The layout: great mix of straightaway and dogleg holes that lends itself to a lot of shot shaping to cut strokes, elevation changes require good distance control; 3.) View: Mountains in the distance from several hole locations, storms have circled around my group from north and south many times and then funnel completely around the local area.....beautiful and original sight to golf from, very refreshing and relaxing. 4.) Availability/Pace of Play: my partner and I get in 18 holes within 3 hours. We don't play particularly fast, but always try to keep a good pace.
Overall very happy with the experience and course. No "clubhouse" to speak of but has some of the basics if you're in need. Absolutely recommend this course for...
Read moreNot only am I former patron of this course but I was also an employee for a very short time and for good reason. The owner is a pompous, arrogant man from Jersey and hasn’t a clue how to run a golf course. Maybe because he’s successful at running farms, he thinks that translates to golf courses but he’s had a plethora of employees who have tried to give him ideas and pointers on how to run the course and how to bring people in. The course is lethargic on most days, so you’d think he would be open to anything. We suggested he have specials on certain days. Golf on some days, food specials on others. He refused. Cares nothing about his patrons. His answer was to give y’all a little more for the same price. No specials. He came in one day, let the GM go, and then proceeded to tell us that IMMEDIATELY, he was changing our hours and our schedule. Only two of us worked that food trailer and the hours and schedule didn’t work for us. He couldn’t have cared less. So we both have left and they’re left with no one who knows how to cook. He will run this course into the ground. I’ll give him two...
Read moreI would like to give this place 5 stars, because the price to play is low $15 to walk, the greens and fringes are perfect and the layout is one of my favorites in the area. The holes are all different with many interesting views. Also the owner who works the pro shop and works from dawn to dusk on this place is a nice guy. I can't give it 5 stars, but I will say that if I lived closer, I would be a member and play at Pole Valley regularly. Pay your money, get out on the course and enjoy this hidden gem. There are a lot of courses in the area with nicer club houses and bars but you really should give this place a try, for the golf experience. It's a "Field of Dreams" Yes they have carts, but the course is very walkable. Yes they sell beer. Why do you think I gave them 3 stars. Just kidding. Last summer 6/2021, this place was taken over by new owners, so this is an old review that needs to be updated. I will play this course in June 2022 and...
