The treatments I received were nice. I was scheduled for a 60 minute exfoliating body rub & a 30 minute facial. The very nice young lady collected me from the waiting room right at the appointment time I was scheduled, 10:30am, took me to the treatment room, gave me my instructions (take robe off, lay on table under towel, face up, very straight forward), I did as asked and lay waiting for 10 minutes. Not that I was intentionally watching the time, but a large digital clock was right next to me. The exfoliating rub was good, I took a shower as she changed the massage table linens. As I finished rinsing she gave me privacy to get back on to the table (& an additional 7 minute wait). The 60 minute exfoliating body rub ended promptly at 11:30.
The facial was more to the actual time listed for the treatment.
I had scheduled the appointment originally to be on & for my birthday, it was scheduled for noon. Then next day I received a cryptic email "call us, your appointment has changed", & I did, leaving a voicemail. Had another email saying my appointment was at 2pm, got a confirmation text the following day it was at noon? All very confusing. ? I did not receive a return call for 2 days, so I called & the front desk person said, "Oh, I am supposed to apologize to you". I asked if I still had an appointment? She did not know. I called later that day and left another voicemail. That evening I called again & when I did get a person online, was informed they could not accommodate the treatments I had chosen on the day I had scheduled. After much sorting out, I was scheduled for a day before, not on the birthday, but with the treatments I had asked for. They offered me one of their add in of collagen eye gel, enzyme peel... complimentary, a kind offer & minimal cost.
So you can do with all this what you will, it is an accurate account of my first experience with August Moon Spa.
(and yes I did tip the young lady that gave...
Read moreSince I reviewed for a Hawaii & Asian following;- Hoping this place does some remodel of the women's side. I didn't feel showers are clean enough. It's a very basic spa with a quiet steam/ sauna rooms;- rareties in normal USA culture. It is by no means an Asian style spa with multiple steam, sauna & bath & shower styles for the price. It's a nice country get away from cramped room renting/dorm going University life. Due to my background I really try to ignore that Japanese culture seems gentrified here with the artwork and hotel robes & rubber slippers. It's like they put me down 😂 in some strange way only akin to my having had to study Classical music to try and appease their pocketbook at IC. So, when I go here, it's just to get away from the downtown suffocation of the University area. This is tough to review since I used to have a higher tolerance of the East Coast attitude. A decade ago it was my spot to go nearly empty to breathe. Today, the robes and art are Akin to my seeing $6 bottled ketchup on Oahu & Japan. My tastes got accustomed to my culture. Steam room works better...
Read moreI had Jaylene today for a facial and she was just wonderful! Her touch, speed, massage technique, etc were all exceptional. I’m a spa enthusiast and licensed esthetician myself of over 10 years and I was very impressed by her level of thoughtfulness and care. Her hands were soft and delicate, nails trimmed to the point where I couldn’t feel them at all. She was knowledgeable on the product lines, considerate to ask about her pressure, warmth of the bed, and quiet moving around the room. She was thorough and gentle with hot towel application and removal. Above all else, she was kind, professional, and personable! I am from out of town, but she made my anniversary trip very special and relaxing. The next time we come back to town, I would absolutely visit August Moon and ask for Jaylene again. I would highly recommend her...
