I really enjoyed my round here.
After seeing all kinds of reviews my expectations were mixed. Hopefully this will help others who fancy playing this course. (I belong to an RTJ club in NY which is impeccably kept and play off 3).
Pro was very welcoming and suggested its a good walking course, so I walked. I'm 54 and I enjoyed my walk greatly.
Grass range is long and well kept. There's a small chipping and bunker area and two putting greens to warm up on.
The course is a nice layout and I particularly liked the greens among trees 11, 12 and 18. Par 3's were all interesting.
The greens aren't the fastest but good condition and speed for a public course. I got there eventually! Many are quite flat but don't count on it (16!!!)
Fairways aren't in great shape so I played a little preferred lies.
They've redone the bunkers on the first 9 which look great. Back 9 to be done next year.
The slope and rating seem very generous from blue tees which I played.
If you want a fun round with some interesting par 3s and some other good holes. If you don't want a frustrating course. If you want a nice welcome. Then play here.
I'd come again when in the area. And when they do the rest of the bunkers and perhaps reseed the fairways it'll be even more of a...
Read moreAs a great man once said "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times"! Let's begin with the best, the course is a truly classic design. The layout is beautiful, the greens are among the largest I have ever played in my 50 plus years of play. For the majority of greens they are in excellent condition. Now the not so nice, the bunkers, which are well located each and every one fairway and greeside are in horrible overgrown condition, no sand. They are totally unplayable. Either Cornell is ready to embark on a total reconstruction or they have abandoned them! The Fairways are ok but many areas of burnout. The cost at $ 68 is way out of line with conditions. Our Foursome felt very sad that this course is not cherished by the university, especially in light that Mr. Jones was a graduate AND that Cornell has a world famous turf program. If this course was given the attention and respect it deserves it would truly be a spectacular venue! Please Cornell restore this...
Read moreWhen looking for a venue for our rehearsal dinner, we knew we wanted something private, which turned out to be pretty difficult to find in Ithaca on a Friday night, for 45 people. I came across Moakley House from my contacts at Cornell. The rental price was much less than other options, and the food was better. The space is wonderful, right on the golf course with an outdoor patio and indoor private room. We had a few appetizers and then a buffet meal that was delicious. I asked for our baker to bring in a surprise groom's cake for my new hubby which he adored. Everything was delicious, the staff was very helpful and the venue worked out great for us. I highly recommend it for...
