Second Nature at Reads Creek — Local services in Town of Kickapoo

i have shopped here a few times, always spending too much money because they are expensive. but i thought they were cool because they have educational events & community events. in my opinion, the best part about the nursery is the creek (when the water is high.) my main issue is that the owner hired me, sight unseen, and then at the orientation he apparently? decided he didn't like me? anyhoo. the owner told me he would call me to schedule me in. he never called. he just blew me off. no explanation. no "sorry this isn't going to work out" he just left me hanging. it would be one thing if i didn't need the job, but i did desperately need the job. and i was super excited about it. i love plants so much & have a lot of experience/knowledge about plants & gardens. i was really looking forward to working there. plus i have four kids & no income. i don't know why the owner didn't like me. i suspect it is because i have an "alternative" appearance & he is ultra christian & conservative. after i wasn't scheduled in, a friend (whose ex had worked there) told me that the owner is "a republican a**hole." so maybe that's it? i will not be shopping...

I drove past this business once and vowed to drive back to visit. This place is GORGEOUS! I remember going to inummerable landscaping centers with my mother as a child and into the teens, and with family and friends as an adult, but I have never really "experienced" a landscaping business (and boutique!) quite like this. Though I live in Onalaska, the anticipation on my drive is really amusing -- I just know I am going to fall in love with a plant, an item, or have a relaxing walk along the grounds.

My husband and I recently went on a date night for a painting class with Alysha (also the lead designer -- faboulous woman!). We had a blast! We will definitely join in on more classes and are debating which area of our yard to reinvent the landscape design after seeing Alysha's designing skills and engaging with her in our painting class; She is really quite amazing, as are the owners we have met, Dave and Jen...a wonderful couple who were very friendly and welcoming.

To be frank, if you are a gardener or someone who enjoys one-of-a-kind unique and special places, then go ... you...

I had the opportunity to experience a Porch Pot workshop that Second Nature facilitated for us at my place of employment. The owners of our company gifted each one of us not only a spot to participate in this experience but the finished product we were able to bring home and enjoy during the holiday season. It was the best 90 minutes! It was not only extremely enjoyable but it was a small moment in time where I didn't have to think but simply create! It was a chance to unplug from the noises and chaos of reality that surrounds us and embrace the simplicity and quite times that can still be found if we take the time to look for them. This workshop was well led, a variety of diverse supplies were provided, music was playing, and it was a relaxed environment where laughter and camaraderie was enjoyed.
