I wish I could give zero stars... I've been going to black river drive in for YEARS and I am so highly disappointed with how it's run. I was just there over the weekend, and there's a no outside food policy (which I understand in most cases). So they have a guy walking around to make sure nobody has outside food, but he's literally shining a flashlight into peoples cars and getting right up to the window and looking in. THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE! Also, I asked what if people have dietary restrictions, etc.? I was told you could purchase an outside food permit for $5 on top of the overpriced admission fee. So if someone is allergic to the oil they use in the fryers, or is gluten sensitive, has diabetes etc., for $5 you can bring in your own food. Ridiculous. I refuse to go to a movie theater because of the prices and the overpriced food, that's why I resort to the drive ins usually. The staff used to be friendly and helpful. It used to be so relaxing to go and watch a movie. Now you feel on edge the whole night. I will be going to the Bay Drive-Ins from now on, they're cheaper, more easy going about outside food, and they don't go and shine a light through your window while you're...
Read morePicture was in focus, color wasn't shifted (looking at you, Route 56 drive in, and your totally unexplained, mysterious, and completely unacceptable pink shift), snack bar was reasonable both in selection and price, attendants were professional and courteous as well as very attentive.
On the other hand, the popcorn was disappointing and the butter was off. I wouldn't call it rancid, but it was somehow sour. Like they'd melted some butter, mixed in some butter-flavored oil (what most movie theaters call butter or buttery topping) and then added some vinegar to extend shelf life. It was so disconcerting and at times unpleasant it really detracted from the visit.
Bathroom was easily accessible, clean, and functional.
Recommended, and at the 2018 $8 ticket price for 2 movies a major bargain compared to the ticket price at the local cinemas for just 1 movie.
Make sure you arrive an hour early for the Friday and Saturday showings, especially for new and/or popular movies if you want...
