Dear camp Simcha Special,
I have heard of you long before it dawned on me that my child will be your camper. So when my daughter went to camp, we were all very excited. We knew that she will have a great time there.
But then came a moment. The moment I realized how little I knew about you. It happened on the last day of camp, when we went to pick her up.
I saw her face Beaming with joy; A smile that wasn't seen on her face for a long time, A sense of happiness that I thought she might not have again.
At that moment it flashed through my mind and my heart all she has been through this past year. The things she has missed. Going to School and everything it entails; friends, playing, singing, learning etc. Family life and simchas. And so many things that are usually taken for granted.
I also had a flash of so many new things she learned this past year. So many names of doctors, nurses and therapist; long lists of medications and devices, the smell of medical facilities, the temperature of operating rooms, the fragility of life, the power of hope, the beauty of love....
And here she is. So happy! As happy as a child can be. Everything about her screamed happiness; her face, her words and her whole demeanor.
I was overwhelmed by tears of joy that did not flow, but were confined to my heart, and will always remain there.
Dear camp Simchah special; I do not have the words to describe you, what you do or the joy you bring. Neither do I have the ability to express my gratitude to you.
Hopefully, someday, a gifted writer will show up and find the words to describe what special place you are, the joy you bring to those kids and the gratitude we feel towards you...
Until that day, all I can say...
