Lake Geneva Country Meats — Local services in Town of Lyons

Very disappointing experience. I'm certain my deer was lost and my entire order of sausage was wrong.

I've been using this butcher for 20 years to process my venison. I've encouraged my hunting companions to use Lake Geneva Meats and they have complained about the quantity of meat they receive compared to other processors. I've been loyally returning, I usually harvest 2 or 3 deer each year and butcher 1 or 2 myself so I have venison so I don't mind the short so much. This year I was really let down. I brought a large doe to be processed mine was the 2nd to be dropped off the Monday after opening weekend. I had to call 3 weeks later to find out what was going on, I was told a lot of paper work was stacked up and they couldn't tell me anything. A week later I received a call. I came in and picked up my meat and paid for sausage to be processed. A 120 lb dressed out deer produced less than 20 lbs of meat but 21 lbs of trimmings, this is less than half the normal amount packed venison from a deer. So be it, I have venison from a deer I butchered myself (but at $150 to process this turns my venison into $7.50 per lb) so I took my single small box under my arm and the cheeses and sauces I purchased. Then I paid 100% for the sausage, rather than just the 50% deposit. That was turned around very quickly. The owner is very rude. After shopping there and spending over 200$ on meat, my car wasn’t starting and I had to wait for a tow truck. Waited 3 hours tow truck finally comes and the owner tells the tow truck to move so he can move a pick up truck to back. I said no problem we waited another 10 minutes then while the tow truck is putting out car up the owner comes back and says idk what you guys are doing can you at least go buy something being very rude and giving mean looks because my car is being towed in the parking lot. I told him my car was parked here in the first place because we did shop in your store. I was soo shocked by how rude he was to his customers and I was being nice to him. Because of this I wanted to go back in and return alllll the stuff I bought.. that’s how insulted I was. I had 4 hogs processed last year in August. I asked for all the hams to be ground, for nice lean ground pork. First, they shorted me over 30 pounds of ground pork and the cut sheets proved it. They did tell me to come back to pick up what I was shorted. Second, NONE of the ground pork I received was lean. I know my hams were not ground and given to me, because I ordered the same processing, "hams added to the ground", from country village meats and the difference is night and day. My dogs won't even eat the ground pork from lake Geneva country meats. This is a shady operation that can't be trusted. Be careful and mention this review when you hand in your cut sheets.
