EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS!!! Prepare to unplug and rewind through space and time at Adeline's House of Cool! Our group included six couples for a weekend getaway with no regrets, other than not planning for a longer trip.
Don't want to give any spoilers, but I can tell you the magic began before we even opened the front door. Brian and his staff take care to provide that extra something special to make each group feel more like friends and family vs. just another customer. In my opinion, these added touches make Adeline's better than a five star hotel.
Once inside there are so many things to see and do for all ages. No matter your interests, there is sure to be something that will fill you with intrigue and/or nostalgia. One could spend days looking at all of the "treasures" around the house. If this doesn't suite you, there is still plenty to keep you and yours entertained. This includes a plethora of board games, books, VHS tapes, DVD's, pool table, dart board, working slot machine (someone in out group even ended up ahead!), bikes for riding, boards for bags, fishing (be sure to have a license and bring poles), and of course the huge hot tub just to name a few.
With so much to see and do on the almost acre of property, there's no need to leave. If you are feeling adventurous there are plenty of excursion ideas at the front desk. I personally recommend the antique shops on Dalton (where we picked up a couple unique pieces of our own) and the Amish Bakery in Pardeeville.
We are already working to book a trip for next year and a possible winter getaway... Because I don't want to wait that long to go back, lol!
Other Notes:
The front drive is perfect for loading and unloading. There is also plenty of additional parking on each side of the house. (No need to carpool.)
Many seating areas provide the ability to stay connected and still have your own space if/when needed. (All swings are surprisingly sturdy!)
Sound system and multiple Wi-Fi connections allow you to easily stream the music of your choice, but we had more fun with random pics on the Juke Box! š
The kitchen is well stocked including two coffee makers, and even a crock-pot.
It may seem odd for the caretaker, Tom, to stop by and show you around the property, but this is truly for your benefit. He knows "secrets" of the house we may not have found...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family spent a great week at Adeline's. The house truly is amazing, with so many things to look at and so many things to do. My 10 yr old grandson learned to play pool and corn hole. He and my 2 yr old granddaughter spent hours in the huge indoor hot tub every day - the caretaker, Tom, turned the hot tub temperature down to 80 degrees making it perfect for the kids - and they didn't get overheated. There are many stained glass windows are beautiful - including a huge awning over the front entrance. Everywhere you look, there is something new to see and investigate.
The outdoor living is terrific at Adeline's - we loved having coffee every morning on the screened upstairs wrap around porch. The property is set on an inlet of lake Puckaway. There is lots of room outside for the kids to run around. There is a secluded "umbrella garden" that was perfect for the 2 yr old since it was surrounded by shrubs so she couldn't wander off.
The owner, Brian, was very responsive - even though he lives in Chicago. For example, Adeline's has bikes for the renters to use, but no helmets (maybe there are no helmet laws in WI?). I texted Brian about helmets and within a couple hours, he had contacted a neighbor and she brought over helmets for us to borrow for the week! The kitchen at Adeline's is perfect for cooking and grilling - I cooked and grilled for our 5 adults/2 kids every night. There were 2 coffee makers so we never ran out of coffee in the morning. There was also a griddle for making pancakes. There is an extra charge for having access to the laundry room, but it was well worth it for having that convenience.
The area around Adeline's is fairly remote - 20 minutes to the nearest Piggly Wiggly, but there is plenty to do in the house. We also took a day trip over to Wisconsin Dells (about an hour drive) to see the Dells and do some touristy activities. We saw numerous Amish families riding in their horse and biggies, which was cool to see. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit the local Amish store
I highly recommend Adeline's for a family or group vacation. With the 6 bedrooms and tons of sitting areas, there is room to spread out - but also to gather - the kitchen table, with bench seating, probably could seat 12. Adeline's is a place to make lots a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWow, what an adventure! āDid you see the walrus?ā was one of the first things Tom said to me with enthusiasm as we āfinishedā what we assumed was almost everything to see. āOh, you wonāt see everything there is to see on your first visitā, he assured us.
Great! Just another of the many reasons to return to Adelineās House of Cool! My wife, myself and a small army of our closest friends recently stayed three nights - not long enough, Iāll tell you now. Just another of the many reasons to return.
We scarfed down dinner and a few drinks as fast as we could so we could finally get in that beautiful hot tub weād been studying online for six months. It lived up to all of our expectations! Perfect temperature, perfect size, perfect room for the perfect party! I highly recommend hot tub frisbee golf.
Our particular weekend happened to be the coldest of the year (so far) with sub zero temperatures so we didnāt do more outside than a quick tour around to marvel at the wonderful world of Brianās Brain. A telephone booth that works? A Mariachi band - that works? More swinging seats than any other property on the planet? Come on! Now we have to go in the summer time as well! Just another of the many reasons to return.
That weather left us plenty of time to experience the house. Yes, we shot the heck out of the pool table, juked about the jukebox dancing around in weird hats, took the slot machine for about 50 bucks - sorry guys, sat in rocking chairs next to a relaxing wood burning fireplace - who gets to do that anymore? But mostly, we marveled at all the crazy artifacts from the most amazing taxidermy Iāve ever seen, to the most realistic wax heads to all the fantastic treasures that owner, Brian has proudly amassed over the years putting together this aptly named, House of Cool.
Did I mention we dressed up like the Muppets just to add another level of escape and weirdness to our adventure? We were dancing around like goofballs, laughing and attempting to take a group picture in our costumes right when manager, Tom, walked in to make sure the hot tub and coolers were up to par - the timing was perfect!
And yes, we saw the walrus!
Thanks to Brian, Tom and Samantha for a perfect vacation! Just another of the many reasons to return to Adelineās...
