We had a custom table made with custom chairs and also custom bar chairs for our kitchen island. I can hardly describe how pleased we are with the design and quality of workmanship. We were looking for something rustic to go with the theme of our kitchen (knotty Alder cabinets and black counters) but had pretty much settled on a beautiful oak table with chairs - beautiful, but not quite the rustic look we were after. Mr. Horning suggested some changes using old barn wood for the table top and the chairs and also black-painted maple base for the table. Even though we couldn't fully picture his suggestion, he was confident enough for all of us. He actually showed us some old scrap barn wood and lightly sanded a section. It was perfect. A friend told me about Horning's, 18 years ago. Since that time we have ordered more furniture than I can remember. To mention a few dining room table, chairs, bed, dresser (*he now defers this work to his son), end tables... Alvin Horning is a wonderful, honest person. You can't buy furniture of this quality no matter what the price. Prices are less than the "quality" furniture stores. All items are be custom made. As an example he made a 3'x5' quarter sawn oak dinning room table with 13 leaves. We ordered 12, 12" leaves and Alvin supplied the last which he cut down to 11 1/2"so it would fit. We bought an 18 foot, oak table (12 leaves) and chairs and a bench from Hornings probably 20 years ago and we still use it all the time. These are honest folks and the product is amazing and stands the test of time. We now live far away but are planning to come back to Penn Yan just to get another table in a new style. We'll give our old one to one of our (now adult) children. What memories, friends, family, and strangers we have had around our beautiful table.
