During the summer it can get a bit crowded with people fishing, exercising, or just out taking a stroll or sitting by the water to enjoy the weather. There is also a small Observatory located next to the pier if you care for a little cultural or historical exchange. The Pier is within walking distance of a small enclave of local restaurants, art galleries, bicycle shops, a gated townhouse community, a small park where people play with their dogs or relax out in the sun. I find the area clean of litter which is high on my list, and the people generally friendly and respectful-wear their masks and follow social distancing protocols. There is a large free municipal parking lot that fills up quickly, but on average, I have never had an issue finding a spot. The Pier has quickly become one of my favorite local "go to" destinations during the winter or summer. I took a friend with me recently for an early supper and she told me that she really enjoyed the Pier and going into town. We both planned to...
Read moreWe had a really great time by the Piermont pier, it is a really nice walk out into the middle of the water. There are a lot of places to stop and sit (or fish if you would like :)). The walkway is not so wide, but wide enough that with oversight we were not worried about letting the kids wander a little. It does get a little windy being next to water on both sides. The views of the Tappan zee bridge and what you can see of both sides of the Hudson is great. The path starts off walking through the marshes and there are high reeds so you cant see much for a little, don't be discouraged and keep walking it will be worth it. the path is about a mile out, so its nice length but not too long. It is a great place to check out if you are the area and need a shorter but not to short place to walk and see. You can sit on the benches and eat something or on the side on some rocks, but there may not be a great location to have a...
Read moreA mile long pier that carried troops to war. You can drive, walk or bike to the end. A watch fire made of heavy logs stacked 15 ft high is lit for Memorial Day each year along with several others along the river.. These fires were originally lit by locals to warn the Continental Army of invading British ship movements up the Hudson River. The watch fire burns for 24 hours and hundreds of people walk out to celebrate the event which is like a fireworks display. There's something else here, also. Local artists, craftsmen and others adorn the trees along the pier with bird houses and painted driftwood that resembles fis in a friendly competition of sorts. Brutal weather conditions on the pier make nesting difficult for sparrows, so bird houses weather, mostly unused. But the creativity is there on the trees...
