The bourbon was smooth, balanced, round evoking memories of leather, a fine cigar, and a high back reading chair with your favorite book. Let this sit on your tongue a minute and really take in the flavor. As it hits your stomach youll feel the warmth of the fireplace grow. Kick your loafers off, relax your smoking vest a little, and put up your feet. This is the perfect drink for a hard NY winter.
The gin meanwhile sits you down in the finest garden in late May. The herbs are growing rapidly, its been a warm spring and the blossoms are starting. You take your first sip, as a gentle breeze wafts floral notes up to your palette. You find yourself engulfed in a warm bit of sunshine. Another sip and the garden grows, imagery of a white picket fence, a couple butterflies dancing, and a friendly honey bee gathering his daily take. This gin finishes smooth and leaves a clean feel.
As soon as the ginger vodka hits your nose you are on a trip to chinatown. You find yourself in an asian food store. A chinese grandmother greets you and welcomes you to the back room. Imagery of ancient chinese herbs and remedies fills your sense. This is a vodka that has true flavor not just the overwhelming alcohol taste. The smell of this sip is wonderful. Continue to take it in. The elderly chinese woman offers you her finest green tea. Let her tell you her story. How she traveled far to grow local. Let her fill your belly and warm your soul. This was a great choice to finish the tasting as the ginger sits in your mouth for some time.
You will not be disappointed in this little distillery. They know how to pack some big flavors. The hostess is friendly and well informed of the process. She knows her product well. I will certainly be bringing back all my business partners...
Read moreFor 3 years I’ve driven past the Myer Distillery on Rt 89 to the Cayuga Creamy for ice cream, saying I have to stop for a tasting. Well this rainy weekend I put aside the Jameson’s and Bushmills and other favorites and found a new friend crafted just a few miles down the road. The Single Barrel John Myer Rye Whiskey is Whisky that any Scott or Irishman would embrace. I’ve been so disappointed so many times at distillery tastings that John Myer caught me by surprise. I started off with the Single Barrel Rye and as soon as it registered, euphoria came over me. I looked up to my server and said this is very good... I then found out my server was in fact Joe Myer who graciously brought me up to speed on their operation and their labor of love. The Myers Farm grown organic ingredients allow them a level of quality control that you taste in all their offerings. So if your in the Finger Lake region and enjoy sipping a dram of good whiskey/whisky I think the Myer Distillery is a must stop and will pleasantly surprise you as it did me ! This local farm family business is one you can easily support, but don’t let it take you 3 years to...
Read moreWe have come every year for the last five years. We have noticed a decline, but not like this year. Gardens out front were full of weeds and not kept. Inventory inside was light and prices were high. We still bought a bottle of vodka. Cocktails were not well crafted. We bought three @10 a piece and nowhere to sit. Bartender offering samples was really drunk. It was sad to see. She should not have been legally working! We made our last trip to your...
