I will start off by saying I have been playing at Spook Rock for 3+ years now and never had a problem at this course. The course is well maintained and everyone I’ve brought here loved it.
Today was my first problem where the starter said I need to show up earlier than 10 minutes before my tee time because he gave my spot to a random person who tried to play. He then said I need to double up with someone I didn’t know or had to pay an additional cart fee. I let them know that I’ve played here for many years and never had to double up with a stranger, nor do I want to because of everything going on in the world. I was told this was not possible since that is their policy and that they cannot control other starters not doing their job. I was then told the course is trying to get away from using Covid as an excuse. The person at the front desk told me he would refund me my fees and to not come back he’ll give me my membership fee back.
I’ve never had trouble with carts, let alone essentially kicked off a course for a golf cart. Fortunately for me, I’m not a good enough golfer to care where I play, but unfortunate to waste a day when I could have gone to many...
Read moreHave been playing the course for 20+ years and love the course layout. Would like to see three things improve. First and foremost is for them to cut down the tall grass surrounding the greens. The grass is so thick (about six inches tall) that anytime you slightly overshoot a green it takes several minutes to locate a ball, if you even can. I only want to see it cut because it slows the speed of play having to look for a ball that is 15’ off of a green instead of being able to locate your ball and chip up quickly. Second item is the lack of a ranger to speed play on busy weekends. Third item is minor, but would love to see the bar/grille opened when the course is open. Nice for those early tee times to grab drinks and some breakfast. Other than these things, love the course and will continue...
Read moreI grew up in Suffern and while I've been living on the Jersey shore since 1991, Spook Rock was/is such a special part of my life. I just played in the 5th annual Member Guest. The head pro Jim McCann is an amazing human being. His enthusiasm is contagious and his love for the game and sincere appreciationfor the members is continually on display. Assistant Chris Cohen is a terrific young man with a bright future. He's always looking to help any way he can to ensure each golfer has a great experience. The culture at Spook Rock is one of the best I've ever seen. The course is in great shape and Jim and the crew take great pride in keeping the conditions pristine. I've played golf all over the world and Spook Rock is simply a beautiful,...
