As far as bridges go, this certainly is one. It starts off, assuming west to east travel, with a looming superstructure of steel, paint, rust, and traffic cones. Expect one lane to be ostensibly closed, for no apparent reason. To your left, an amazing view of a guardrail with sky and some kind of trees behind it. To your right, another, similar guardrail. Beyond it sits the creepiest looking train bridge you've ever seen. But there has never once actually been a train on it. Fact.
Making your way thru the overhead structure, you then find yourself exposed to the sky with the bridge no longer above you. Some say it's built this way to allow taller ships to pass below. I don't believe that. I think it's purely to mess with your head. Luckily on the eastern shore is a rest stop where driver can buy new shorts to replace those that were soiled during this part of the passage.
Once you reach that eastern bank of the mighty Hudson Creek, you will look in your mirror, and a sigh of relief will fall upon you. You've made it. You're across. Unless you then have to go back. Which is so much worse.
Seriously tho. Its a pretty good bridge. It's been bridging for a long time, and all the bridgy parts work ok. I haven't...
Read moreFirst of all the bridge is not that bad as people make it seem. Yes, itâs scary because of how quickly it comes up and yes you are pretty high up and itâs narrow and single lane with ongoing construction. But itâs a Truss BRIDGE people! If you get this scared crossing a bridge maybe you should rethink your entire life choices that brought you there in the first place. Theres a reason why itâs still standing and hasnât collapsed itâs because truss bridges are engineering powerhouses when it comes to load. Personally I saw no rust at all maybe they repainted and repaired most of it. But I will agree I didnât like the two lanes and the guardrails. I went on it twice going into NY and coming back to MA and I have a fear of heights. Like really people grow a pairâŠlive life on the...
Read moreOmg! I thought I was completely irrational for my intense, sickening fear of this bridge! Iâm glad itâs not just me. I think Iâm going to do as others suggest and reroute next time.
This bridge is a living nightmare. When someone else is driving, I literally close my eyes and pray. When Iâm driving, I have grip the wheel and talk myself through it every time, alternating reassurance to myself âyouâre doing fine, halfway across now, you can do thisâ with whisper-screaming the f-word, to avoid having a full blown panic attack.
I give it 1 star because a. I made it across and b. Google wonât allow a...
