A couple of warnings. 1. There is no Severance Hill Trail, it’s called Severance Mountain Trail. That confused us at first.
Don’t let GPS take you onto I-87. The entrance is on RT. 9 and a bit past where our phone map said it would be.
Other than that, we agree with the many other reviews of this trail, it’s mostly easy with a few steep areas but not too rocky most of the way.
The beginning is fun as you travel through two tunnels under the highway.

Great for a quick workout, 1.2 miles to the summit, with an aerial water view of Schroon Lake and Paradox Lake. Because of the moderate steepness, little to no rock scrambling, and the wide trail, it is super pup and family friendly.
There is a small dirt parking area at the start of the trail. I have driven there as well as biked there from Schroon because it is so close.
