I'm slowly knocking off the high peaks in the Catskills. This is for sure one of the harder, more technical mountains. Some of the climb requires using your hands and an ability to pull your self up. (Really just one spot in the last 1/4 mile). It's tough but omg it's the best view I've ever seen. The pictures just don't do it justice. Going up with the dog was mostly fine but coming back down was hard. I'll be better prepared for next time, but it's a moment shared with my dog I'll never forget.

The trail from woodland to Wittenberg is a demanding 6km with some 750m climb. The trail is rugged, you step on rocks and roots as natural stairs, and the path is very uneven. You constantly have to watch your footing, real foot gear required!

In places you have to climb. There are bugs, snakes and squirrels.

The trail is covered in a thick green foliage so it is not a scenic trail, although the lookout allegedly is scenic when it is not...

Stunning view and fun hike. Very challenging. Definitely more than a “hard” level. Prepare for 4hrs up and 4hrs down, get plenty of water and snacks. The last half mile was steep and rocky, needs some climbing. Trail is mostly stumbled rocks and can be slippery. Shoes will good grip will definitely help. Also good to have a offline trail map I almost got lost for a few times. Overall a...
