The National Golf Links of America, located in Southampton, New York, is a hugely significant and influential private golf club with a fascinating origin story. It was founded and designed by Charles Blair Macdonald, often considered the "father of American golf course architecture," and officially opened for play in 1911.
Macdonald, after extensively studying the great links courses of the British Isles, set out to create a course in America that incorporated the best and most strategic elements of those classic holes.
