I hate to post a low-star review but I have such mom guilt now that a year after my daughter came back from Peconic I found out that she sat alone and cried every day. She bottled it up for a year but when she told me, tears were rolling. I feel so bad.. All of the other kids in her bunk turned out to be a group of friends (inconsistent with the rule I thought they had of only letting you pick one bunkmate) who were generally mean to her and excluded her from everything. Unfortunately it rained the whole week so there were no activities for her to otherwise participate in something and have fun.
I sent my daughter to this camp the year prior and she had a great time so I’m not sure what happened last year. I don’t blame the kids, they are kids after all, but the counselors apparently only hung out with each other and did nothing to help and the camp never should have arranged the bunks this way. I did give the camp this same feedback. Maybe they can improve to avoid this situation...
Read moreI've been going to this camp since i was 9 years old and i went to this camp 7 years. Ive learned so many life lessons and actual learning lessons. Its a wonderful experience to just be out in the open. There is no phone service so it gives you a break of the internet and just be yourself and explore all options. I've learned how to cook, fish, kayak, canoe, paddle board and play rugby and archery. In addition i met so many kids here. i have friends from all over the world; Spain, holland, England, ireland and Germany, and i have so many friends across the Island ranging from Oceanside/Garden City to West hampton. And these kids are my best friends and we talk every single day.
this camp is a second home to me and i HIGHLY...

I can still tell you that I had Cabin 6; I can still name some of my campers and some of the counselors and I can still picture their faces. And oh I can surely still remember plenty of events that went on!
I don’t know what it’s like now, but back then it was a very rustic experience. (I can’t imagine what summer camp is like now that kids have smart phones. Are they...
