Part of the tattoo experience is the relationship with the tattoo artist. I can only write directly about my tattoo experience with Mark Schmeiske. Mark is great to work with and helped me shape my ideas into the tattoo I wanted. I know I bugged the poor guy a lot as I worked through my ideas to get to the final tattoo. Mark handled my badgering well, and I am very satisfied with the end results. I get compliments all the time on the work he did.

My 2nd experience with Black Royale Tattoo has been atypical for me. I presented a couple of tattoo ideas to Mark, and he suggested I consider a collaboration with Jamie Young for one particular idea. A collaboration bringing in Jamie’s hyper-realism with Mark’s stylized and old school leanings; two styles I really appreciate but hadn’t considered merging. Jamie agreed to the collaboration idea and I have the appointment in the books for both artists who are both going to work on the tattoo at the same time.

This type of experience is why I continue to recommend Black Royale. Not only are they both talented artists, but they are also willing to work together to leverage each other’s talents without ego. The three of us were able to come up with a tattoo concept we are all excited about.

Mark came highly recommended by another local, well known tattoo shop. I spent about 2 weeks trying to find the right place, doing in shop visits, asking friends, etc. I definitely made the right choice. Mark and I spent a few days emailing back and forth about what I wanted before I stopped in for an in person consult. He addressed and reassured all of my concerns. This is a highly sentimental tattoo, and I wanted to make sure Mark was the right artist to do this. He got me in quickly, and wasted no time getting to work. He did have to resize and reposition the words to make it work. He did not, however, alter the handwriting or try to make it his own. He perfectly captured every shaky line, every loop, everything in the same manner my grandfather wrote it. I will cherish this tattoo forever. And have definitely found a new favorite tattoo artist for any future work I have done. The shop is small but clean, friendly, and in a good location. Parking is plentiful....

I got a couple tattoos done by Mark a few years ago and he is very good! Keep in mind that he does do traditional style tattoos so his lines are very thick. With that being said, one of the tattoos he did on me blew out very quickly and I just wasn’t happy with the way it looked anymore. I am very disappointed because I spend a lot of money to come to well-known and highly reviewed shop. I ended up going to a different shop to get it fixed and it turns out the guy that took the time to fixed it was turned away to be an apprentice at Black Royale….
