We stayed at one of the cabins at The Retreat at Water’s Edge and had a deeply disappointing experience—not because of the property itself, but due to how our situation was handled by the host.
Our trip was unexpectedly cut short when the Bonnaroo Music Festival was canceled due to severe weather. We immediately contacted our host, James, to inform him of our early departure and to request a partial refund for the unused nights. He read the message but did not respond—not for hours, not for days.
Despite multiple follow-ups, the host remained silent. We submitted two formal refund requests through Airbnb—both were ignored or declined. Only after escalating to Airbnb did he finally reply, claiming he had typed a message and never hit send. At that point, he refused a refund and instead offered just $50 back on a reservation that cost over $800—an amount that felt more like a slap in the face than a genuine effort to resolve the situation.
While we understand hosts aren't always obligated to refund in these situations, basic communication and empathy should be the bare minimum. Unfortunately, we received neither. I would strongly urge future guests to take this into consideration when booking. Beautiful cabin or not, no one wants to be stranded mid-trip with an...
Read moreVery disappointed with the Retreat at Water’s Edge. I booked a tiny home and then soon heard that the home was no longer available and they needed to switch us to another home, “Sunset Wonder”. I understand that things happen (perhaps a maintenance issue or double booking for the first home) and agreed to the new home. Fast forward to a day before our visit and hurricane Helene is looming. We receive a message from our airline regarding the sever weather could cancel our flight. Immediately we contact Retreat at Waters Edge and are basically told, sorry no refund/no credit. Terrible customer service given the circumstances of the sever weather (where their local schools were closed). This was our second booking but I would not recommend them to others. The website makes it look great but the questionable rental management practices and misleading advertising of the amenities (pool coming soon has been advertised for 2 years) just isn’t worth it with other options...
Read moreI love the concept of this lake front, tiny home community. I purchased a lake front lot last October and was told at that time that I could drop my tiny home in March of this year. Clayton built my house and it was ready in March. I was initially told they were behind due to all the rain we received the first few months of the year. It was eventually put on my lot in June. I sill haven’t closed on my home yet and I believe now the delay is due to issues with utility installation. So my close date was postponed - at first to April, then June, moved to August, again changed to September and I just received notice I will be November. Owners/developers should do a better job of communicating with residents as to progress, at least bi-weekly, to keep us in the loop I’m sure this will be fabulous once I get in to my home. It’s been a year since I started this journey. I will update this review after I close and am...
