Long review warning. If you don’t wanna read it, all you need to know is, THIS PLACE ROCKS. If you’re a gardener in the Miami valley area, read on:
I went to Andy’s for the first time today to buy plants for my vegetable garden, and all I can say is WOW. They made a lifetime customer of me over $50 worth of plants.
I’ve always gone to North Dayton Garden Center because that’s where my grandma always goes, and that just the way it was. I never had a single complaint about the place, they were always nice, but unfortunately I won’t be going back there. Andy’s is much closer to me and SO MUCH BETTER.
Their plant quality and selection is PHENOMENAL. I had a really hard time picking my plants because they were ALL so nice! Not a single dying plant on the shelves. I was only worried about vegetables today, so I didn’t look hard at their flowers or shrubs, but I did not see one single unhealthy plant during my visit. The whole place looks like the Garden of Eden, and it’d be worth visiting for that alone. They also had MUCH better ventilation in their greenhouses than any nursery I’ve ever been to; I normally sweat like a pig whenever I go get my plants, but I was barely warm at Andy’s.
Their selection during my visit made my whole summer! If you garden, you already know I’m way late to be getting started. I’ve been late a couple times before, and the trip to North Dayton was pretty disappointing both times. They’d have about 70% of what I was looking for (not always in great shape), and I’d get the rest from other nurseries and various hardware stores. That’s not their fault, nurseries can’t just order more plants when they run out, that’s not how it works. But today at Andy’s, I got 95% of my plants, all of them beautiful. The only thing they were out of was cucumbers; who cares, I can get those at Lowes.
Their pricing was different than other nurseries in the area, but MUCH better. The $50 worth of plants I got normally runs me at least $80, if not over $100 by the time I’m done also buying from the hardware store. Not much else to say here, better plants at a better price.
The last, and by far most important thing I noticed, was that their customer service was on another level! I’ve never had a customer service problem at North Dayton, or any other nursery; plant people are usually happy people. But this whole thing started with a phone call about tomatoes, on a nice Saturday, in the busiest season for these places. My call was answered within 10 seconds, by an employee (who’s name I can’t remember but wish I could) who didn’t know the answer to my question off the top of her head, but immediately went back to the greenhouse to find out. Once I got there, the place was positively buzzing with employees, all of them helpful and knowledgeable. I talked to at least a dozen employees, and each interaction was great.
So that’s about it. I’m 32 years old and I’ve been actively gardening since childhood; today I...
Read moreOctober 2016 - Kathy in the floral shop is amazing. I recently went in to have fresh flowers for an engagement cake, and Kathy (whom I learned has been designing arrangements for 19 years) did a superb job in hearing my design intentions and color scheme and fulfilling it with a beautiful arrangement to embellish the cake. Thank you, Kathy for your beautiful work!
8/11/17 update Kathy did 10 flower centerpiece arrangements for our son and fiance's recent wedding rehearsal dinner. Kathy surpassed our expectations. The table arrangements were stunning! We intentionally chose the same flowers our son had for his sweetheart's first prom corsage, then engagement cake embellishment, and just recently the rehearsal dinner table centerpieces. His sweetheart enjoyed the nostalgia. Thank you Kathy for your expertise! It was meaningful that you did all three significant flower arrangements for our son and his love. I am a VERY...
Read moreBe sure to check your plants very very very carefully! I am two years into dealing with a mealy bug issue that I got from a single Cyclamen that I bought there two years ago. I have lost hundreds of dollars of orchids and house plants. Would never buy from them again.
Update: These are not accusations, but truth. Why am I bringing this up now is because 15 months later, and I am still fighting them, and trying to save over 1000 worth of plants. I had no issues until I brought those cyclamen home. I know that is where they came from, as one I had left in the plastic wrapper to take as a gift, and it was not close to any other plants. When I closely checked, it had them. I did call the store on November 29th 2022, and your clerk did offer a refund. I appreciated that, but I had already thrown them out in the trash to try to prevent further spread. I guess the only good in the situation is that I now know what...
