1 star with a negative sign. Omnitel and its subcontractors have no respect property owners' rights. They sent their shady subcontractors from MN and WI to break into my property to make unauthorized line drop to my residence. The subcontractor crew pried open the gate lock, removed the chain, and started excavating over my private electric and telephone line, destroying the lawn. By the time I came home, they were excavating over my septic tank. The tank's lid was already broken into pieces, but the operator kept tapping with the digger bucket, destroying the tank's edges and dropping chunks of mud and concrete into the tank. After I managed to stop them, they stood around the destroyed tank and laughed together with the Omnitel's manager, who had been very pushy about trying to get us to accept Omnitel's fiberoptic line offer. Instead of first locating all the private utility lines as agreed, that Brian tech decided to have the line dropped in my absence, lest I turned down their fiber internet offer based on the location results. Per county's regulation, I have to replace the entire septic system now. The subcontractor crew had to be either drunk or on drugs to do what they did. They left without covering the tank, just threw several cones around the hole. When I asked if they were going to leave the septic tank open, the subcontractor threw over it a piece of plywood, which he'd found on top of my tank, way too small to cover the entire opening. We had to call a professional septic installer to clean the tank, the lines, and cover it properly. After verbally committing to cover the repair costs, Omnitel decided to shift the entire responsibility onto their subcontractors, whom Omnitel's manager had instructed to make a line drop without my consent. Then they started lying about that. Weeks later, the septic contractor complains that he has not been paid. Now contractors refuse to do any repair work unless Omnitel pays upfront. Omnitel will tell you that they will dig only to 8" deep pushing some machine in front of them. Do not believe that ! they dig 4-5 feet under with a full size excavator. Omnitel used to provide exceptional service—reliable and fast internet with no issues. Unfortunately, over the past six months, the quality has steadily declined. My internet connection now drops for about 30 seconds every two hours, which is a serious issue as I work from home and depend entirely on a stable connection for my income. This problem has not only affected me but also my neighbors on both sides of us, indicating it is not an isolated issue.

We reached out to Omnitel about a month ago to report the disruptions and seek a resolution. However, we were told there were no outages and were essentially dismissed, as if the problem didn’t exist. The experience felt dismissive and unhelpful, bordering on gaslighting.

In a larger city, switching providers might be a simple solution, but in a small town of around 300 residents, we don’t have that luxury. There are no alternative internet service providers available, leaving us stuck with an unreliable connection that has already cost me hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars in lost income.

The fiber installation process was also straightforward. Bryan, Brett, and Brad made the experience smooth and hassle-free. My only feedback would be to improve communication during the installation process. I would have appreciated more updates about when the crew planned to be onsite for tasks like trenching or drilling into my home. Fortunately, I happened to be home when they were working, so it wasn't a huge deal for me. It's just nice to be informed before someone starts altering your property.
