My son, myself, and some close friends visited Spaceport America đ located outside of Truth or Consequences, NM on Sunday, Sept 8th, for their Open House fair.
Spaceport America is the World's first purpose-built-Spaceport. The gateway to Space đ is an FAA-licensed launch complex. Situated on 18,000 acres of State Trust land in the Jornada del Muerto desert basin , located adjacent to the US Army White Sands missile range.
The Open House fair was set up on the grounds outside, and the entrance was free to the public, which was great! We really enjoyed ourselves. There some aircraft parked on the grounds, including Air and Marine Operations - US Customs and Protection, Civil Air patrol, and different Spaceport fire engines and medic, we were allowed to climb inside to view the aircraft and vehicles, with all their components and take pictures.
Personal were very nice, knowledgeable, and friendly. They were there to give us information, answer questions, and explain what each aircraft is used for. There were many booths, including informational, hands-on, sales, food, and interactive for both children and adults.
This was our first time visiting Spaceport. It was a fun and awesome experience. We will be back and next time we will pay for the tour, because there is a lot more to see inside. I would recommend anyone of any age to come see this spectacular place. if you are in the area or planning a trip to New Mexico, stop by to visit...
Read moreMy family and I had fun here, but Wow, there are several things that could have been done so much better! For one, there were too many exhibits/venders that had Nothing to do with Science or Space. Ballroom dancers? Seriously? Also, the music was blasting SO loudly that precious few of the announcements could be heard, and even fewer understood. They made different announcements inside and outside the hanger too! So we missed out on half the darn celebration and all the coolest stuff. We were really very interested in the speakers and their presentations, but there was so much darn noise, but inside and outside the hanger that, even sitting 2 rows from the stage front, we couldn't understand a word coming out of their mouths. The science demonstrations and hands on interactive stuff was REALLY cool! However, again with the blasted music drowning everything out!! We had to Really strain to hear Anything being said. Even the guy with the mega phone at the rocket shoot (that we knew nothing about until it was too late to participate in), could not be clearly heard nor understood. One last complaint; while the food vendors were delicious, 8 Freaking Dollars for a Single hamburger!?! Come on! OH! And the gyroscoping antigravity ride they advertized was nowhere in sight. Major disappointment...

This is most definitely worth the stop! By 2020 I have no doubt it will have grown immensely!!
Tips: *Book your tour weeks in advance to ensure you get a slot! As an airport, security will NOT let you on the property for any reason other then being on the guided tour. *Plan the better part of a day for the tour at the actual Spaceport. The visitor center is essentially just a meeting place to go on the tour. You will most likely be unimpressed by the visitor center, and everything worth while is at the Spaceport. *We stayed in Truth it Consequences about an hour away. Many hotels have indoor natural hot spring mineral pools. Very cool! We highly recommend the Sierra Grande and stop at T&C brewing for some great beer. *We have AT&T and no service most places. Print a map if you plan on driving out to the spaceport. If you missed the tour or in town on a day there is no tour, itâs worth driving out just to see the building. But again, you canât get on the property and there isnât much to see from outside the gate. *Curtis and his staff are very friendly and happy to...
