After a long drive, we arrived with about an hour to spend touring the grounds, etc. There were three of us in this deserted old post office with a video playing stating how awesome Dickel whiskey was. I asked the tour guide if there were any tours available and there were only three of us requesting a slightly abbreviated tour. Noone else was there. He said the tours are flexible and on no set schedule. He said that if nobody came for another 15 minutes, he'd give us an abbreviated tour of about 45 minutes instead of the standard hour-ish. We waited ...waited....15 minutes later, two more people arrived and I said we were on a time constraint and asked them if they'd mind if we had an abbreviated tour. I even offered them some money to compensate their time and the two said that they'd gladly accommodate us. The tour guide said it would be against their policy to have an abbreviated tour. Also, if we started a tour, we couldn't leave early. Essentially, we'd be 'locked in'. About 10-15 minutes later (about a half hour after we arrived), a few more people arrived and they started a standard tour. The fact that they could have toured us with a brief tour then toured the other folks who had more time to spare, thereby satisfying all parties involved but went out of their way to disadvantage us was appalling. Also, there was NO TASTING available so if you couldn't tour, there was literally nothing to do but watch some constantly repeating video. Apparently that's the small town mentality of this place, always living in the shadow of their neighbor, never wanting to please everyone. I'll never buy Dickel, not only because a recent bartender suggested the inferiority of their product, but due to the brazenness of the staff to not assist the only 3 people who visited them at that time, on that day. Your whiskey is...
Read moreToday is 1/29/21 and I drove 230 miles out of route just to get to the Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. Let me tell you why and what my visit was like!
First, expect to travel through some amazing parts of the country and see the Arnold Air Force Base on your journey to some of the best tasting Whiskey this side of the hemisphere.
Second, I came to find the whiskey you canât pick up in your every day shop at home. And this place has got it. Do I need any other reason to be coming here?
Third, unfortunately I canât remember the girl who help me at the distillery shop but she was absolutely fantastic and amazing. She only Had to answer like 755 of my questions but she was enthusiastic about answering everyone of them. She said her goal one day was to be a distiller (like Nicole) and when that day happens, I wanna be there to try her first bottle because that girl has passion!
If youâre expecting to see something the size of Six Flags theme park, you wonât. What you will see is the coolest freaking looking whiskey factory tucked between a small winding road and amazing backdrop of the wilderness in your life.
The shop is amazing and they have a variety of different things you could buy there and some stuff you can never find anywhere else on the planet. Theyâve got apparel they got hats and a bunch of other stuff. I wasnât able to take the tour because I was on a time schedule but I will be back one day to check the facility out.
If you like whiskey and you want to take a day trip, this is a cool place to visit and buy some fantastic tasting whiskey.
Thank you to the team, and the girl whose name I canât remember (Iâm sorry) who I bought $500 of whiskey from, for showing me around the shop and dealing with my weirdness. You guys...
Read moreOne of the best unexpected tours of all time! While visiting some dear friends from Tennessee, we got to go on a tour they arranged of the George Dickel distillery in Tullahoma and were flattened to see where they are in 2020. Prior to this, I have become profoundly influenced by great modern bourbon, scotch, and Tennessee whisk(e)y before coming across a bottle of George Dickel Bottled In Bond. My taste buds have grown an affinity for single malt scotch, notably Balvenie, Oban, Bowmore, and Bruichladdich. Upon receiving a Tullahoma tour from the wonderful, lovable, and incredibly SMART Tori, Iâm not quite sure my like for scotch will ever be the same again. We got to tour the late 1950s version of the Cascade Hollow distillery and couldnât help but fall in love with the âotherâ Tennessee distillery! From the amazing tour of Miss Tori (Culinary Institute of America grad), we learned about George Dickel and the people of Tullahoma and the recent influence of GDâs newest head distiller Nichole Austin. A heavenly highlight was a tour of their onsite rack house holding hundreds of aging full barrels of whisky complete with the full angels share aroma! At the conclusion of the distillery tour, we got to sample several of George Dickelâs current creations including their Barrel Select and the mythical Bottled In Bond. As the magnificent Miss Tori held court, we came to the unmistakable conclusion that this is not the less interesting George Dickel of old. If you love great modern American bourbon Tennessee and Lincoln County Process style, make sure you consider the modern Nichole Austin (and Tori!) influenced...
