On Saturday, October 12th, I purchased a pair of boots, only to realize later that I had mistakenly bought a half size smaller than my usual fit. The following day, Sunday, October 13th, I returned to the store with my receipt and boots in the original packaging and box to exchange them for the correct size.
After waiting for 20 minutes for a manager to assist with the exchange, I was surprised to discover that the boots were returned at my original purchase price, but the correct size was charged at $40 more than I had paid the previous day. I explained that I only sought an exchange for the correct size. The associate informed me that she needed to process a return and then charge me for a āsize exchangeā at the current selling price.
I kindly clarified that I did not wish to return the boots but simply exchange them, presenting my original receipt. I referred to the exchange policy posted at the counter and the corresponding policy on their website. Despite my request to review it together, she insisted she was following policy and refused to read it. When I pointed out that the policy allowed for an exchange with the original receipt, she disagreed and asked me to leave the store.
I requested that she contact her manager, but she indicated that she had already sent a text. I then asked if she would call corporate for clarification, as I was already present and preferred not to return later. She declined, suggesting I look up the number myself. Additionally, she refused to provide her name or the manager's contact information.
After completing my other purchases, I attempted to ask for her name again, but she retreated into the stockroom and refused to engage. I am still shocked at being treated so rudely and with such poor customer service. Unfortunately, I now must either mail the boots back for an exchange, or return to the store another day when she is not there to exchange the boots (without presenting my receipt), which is terribly inconvenient.
In hindsight, I realize that I should have suggested processing the return at todayās price for store credit, which would have allowed me to purchase the correct size without issue. I was so frustrated by her behavior that I couldnāt think clearly. I wonder why the manager didnāt suggest this solution; it would have been more beneficial for me without needing the receipt.
