Ascend Durbin Park — Local services in Twentymile

Over the last 38 years I have lived in 14 states and 37 cities due to work. The majority of these locations were apartments. Ascend by far leads the pack. When my wife and I started looking in this area as newlyweds, we had a little advantage. I had been in the area for a few years and previously lived in a couple of the newer apartments. I must say that I was very unmotivated to move from my boat, where I was living in downtown Saint Augustine to an apartment. So, when I say this place is the best it really is. Here’s why. To start with the location is fantastic. It takes less than 5 minutes to get on ( 9B, I95, RT1, Saint Johns pkwy, CR 210 or race track rd ) no other complex in the area has this type of access. In the event of a road closure or accident, there are literally 4 different access options. That was the first thing I noticed. My wife and I agreed to give this place a shot. THANK GOD we did!!! They say first impressions are everything.That is certainly true. From our first contact everything was smooth and extremely professional. We had a feeling of comfort knowing that we were dealing with a professional leasing agent who cared about our wants and needs. We had to wait for the occupancy permit to sign the lease. We were one of the first residents in our community. When it was time to sign the lease and move in, I visited the property. That when I knew this was the right choice. When I arrived at the property, I met Jennifer. She was and still is absolutely amazing! Her professionalism and dedication to our needs during the process had been remarkable. Instantly I understood why my wife was so comfortable dealing with her. We had truly lucked out !!! It turns out that Jennifer is the Leasing Manager for the property. To Horton properties I say, Bravo!!! My wife and I are both small business owners. I can honestly say that Jennifer is that type of person that we all wish we had 10 more of. What a great person to have represented your company! Fast forward we have been here 4 1/2 months now and found the need for more space. Jennifer made the process super easy. With one call we told her what we needed and she went to work and made it effortless for us. We will be moving in a week and extending our lease! As far as the property goes. It’s every bit as beautiful as the pictures. Unlike many of the other apartment complexes, this one is 4 stories. The reason this was important to us is because has indoor hallways and elevators. The mark of a true luxury community. So if you’re looking for a new home, I strongly suggest you check out Ascend. Ask for Jennifer she’s the best! Watch out for the 5 star reviews that are from people who just finished signing their lease. These are the worst apartments I have ever lived in. The wall in our bathroom is literally curved, the kitchen island is off center, the ventilation fan in the bathroom barely runs and it is ALWAYS humid, poor insulation, etc. Additionally, my upstairs neighbors likes to stomp around after midnight on weeknights and let their dog run a marathon inside. I brought this issue to managements attention multiple times and I didn’t even get a response. Also left a nice note for the neighbor and they have only gotten louder. Our nextdoor neighbors hear the upstairs neighbors as well. I have to request pest control to spray every week because of how bad the bugs are in the apartment. A window in my unit was left open for who knows how many days before I moved in that I didn’t discover until two days later. The blinds were down and shut so I did not realize the window was open the entire time which is not only a huge safety issue but, also an issue for my electric bill. It needs to be replaced, but still has not been. There have been vehicle break ins even though it seems like a safe area. The fire alarms randomly go off at night. I would not recommend these apartments at all and am counting down the days until my lease is up.

Edited to add: our nextdoor neighbors broke their lease due to mice in their apartment and other issues with bugs and lack of response from maintenance. Now there is rat poop in the hallway right next to...

If I could give this apartment 0 stars, I would. I genuinely don't even know how they are at 4 stars. I moved from a previous apartment in hopes that this would be a great place to live. From the outside, it looked great and the management staff was accommodating at the beginning. It was brand new when I moved in, so I was excited. However, I have never lived in such a bad apartment, and I have lived in 5 different complexes in multiple states. The neighbors are by far some of the rudest and most disrespectful people I've ever experienced. They bang around and blast music until 1-2 a.m. every single day. I have brought it up over 6 times with management staff and I get nothing but a "we will contact them." Obviously, nothing ever changes (I'm not sure they're even contacting them) and it usually just gets louder. In the 8 months I have lived here, I think I could count on one hand the amount of nights I have slept through the night without getting woken up or kept up. I wouldn't recommend these apartments to my worst enemy. For the amount of money you pay to live here, it's totally not worth it unless you don't care about having a peaceful...
