The Covered Wagon has some of the best pies available for purchase anywhere in the area. There is simply no competition that the big box stores can come close to offering. But there is so much more that this place offers that other stores miss the mark on. There is an amazing amount of bulk candy, nuts and dried fruits as well as dried spices and baking supplies. And if you have grandchildren, then it's the perfect place to spoil them with the penny candy. Their soups are 5 star quality and there are baked goods like cookies, coffee cakes, and the hugely popular cinnamon rolls. You'll also find conveniently frozen home made quality meals like meatloaf, cheesy potato casserole, and beef and noodles. I haven't tried their fresh and made to order sandwiches yet, but I've heard that they are well worth the price and very hearty. The shop is on the "cozy" side, but it gives customers the opportunity to interact with each other like people used to do generations ago. Seeing how it's late in the year, I seem to remember that the good people running the store take an extended vacation, so get in there before Christmas for your supplies.
I'm frequent customer even though it's a bit of a drive to get there, but it's well worth it every time. Next to Dorothy Lane Market, this is my favorite...
Read moreThe owners are very inconsiderate to their neighbors living near their farm. They have destroyed Marrett Farm Road where it dead ends to their field. Their produce and plants sold here are harvested from a field that is fed with water stolen from Pig Eye Creek, which is a tributary to Stillwater River. A large tractor and/or generator runs a water pump constantly, pumping water 500 plus feet from Montgomery County Line Road to their field. This empties the creek, starves the downstream wildlife of water and habitat, lowers the water table, is a constant noise nuisance to the community, and is a huge safety hazard with an unattended tractor running non-stop on the side of the road. All of the fuel and oil being spilled and leaking from this equipment and storage containers tipped over, goes right into the creek. This operation is unethical, inconsiderate, and down right shameful! If you think this is a legit Amish operation, you are...
Read moreI was in the bakery section and picked up a plate of iced sugar cookies that were marked down to $ 2.29 from the original price of $ 5.59. There were 6 in each pack, and I thought that was a great deal and they looked really good. They were wrapped in plastic and were on a paper plate. I went to check out and the cashier told me that price couldn't be right, and she called over to the bakery. She instructed them to remove the mark-down sticker off the other plates and told me I had to pay the full price for them. I of course told her no. I thought that was poor customer service, she should have given them to me at that price and went ahead and removed the other stickers before the others were purchased. I informed the group I was with about this, and they said she should not have done that to me. We will never...
