Very nice and challenging course, lots of water hazards, bunkers and overall very narrow. I don’t understand the reviews complaining about the conditions, they were phenomenal and we had a great time playing the course.
My complaint is with the rental equipment, and pro shop staff.
The website claims that they have the newest taylormade qi10 sets available to rent on a first come first serve basis. My dad and I were vacationing at the local marriot and decided to play, the green fees were high and rentals $60, and we were the first tee time of the day (6:42am) We figured that was high but at least we could try out the new qi10s.
We were given three generation old sets of clubs, sim2 irons and hybrid, first gen stealth woods and drivers.
I saw 20+ new sets of Qi 10 sets in the back room and asked the pro shop associate if we could play the new sets and we were told that they didn’t have full sets even though I was looking at them in plain sight, but regrettably didn’t make a big deal out of it.
Next, I told them needed a stiff set. I was provided a set with only a stiff driver, all irons, wood and hybrid were regular flex which I didn’t realize until about midway through the round and couldn’t go back at that point.
I told the pro shop associate after our round of my dissatisfaction with the set and all he said was sorry, didn’t offer any reimbursement or take care in any way. Seems like they were holding onto the rentals for their buddies and they simply brushed the situation off. Next time I would definitely challenge this further given they charged $60 for a rental and provided 3 generation old equipment despite the false advertisement on their website of qi10 equipment, which I saw in plain sight!
This would be an easy 5 star for me purely for the course but given the mismanagement of the rental clubs and the pro shop employees knocking two stars. Need to do better and treat your vacationing guests with higher level of service.
My advice If your renting clubs here is to check the clubs and make sure they’re what you asked for and push for the qi10s that they do have, just weren’t willing to...
Read moreI was back in the 30A area and decided to give this another go. The customer service was outstanding today, and the course was in terrific shape. They have won the 5th star for my review, and I'll definitely be back!
Really enjoyed the Nicklaus course today, however they have a customer service issue. The lady in the pro-shop was polite and courteous, as was the young man who helped when I finished at dusk, but the older guy who initially loaded my clubs in the cart should be doing something which doesn't require engaging the public. If it were just about the course I would definitely give it 5 stars, but customer service matters, and I would rather not have someone who obviously hates either their job, other humans, or both be the ambassador at the start. I told him I was ok getting my own bag, but he still jerked it out of my trunk, threw it onto the cart half-ass, and let three of my clubs slide out of the bag, leaving them behind in my vehicle. After I fixed that, I smiled and asked him to point me to the first hole, he acted as if I were stupid for not already knowing. Again, the course was outstanding, and it was great to play one which Nicklaus designed. Good roll on the fairways, tight well-kept greens, interesting water hazards, and a couple proper restroom facilities. Not as hard as I expected, but still challenging enough. I would say I'd play it again or its sister course (The Meadows), but there's so much golf in the area without having to deal with a jerk, I'm not sure I will make the 45 minute drive to deal with...
Read moreStart with the positives.
Course layout and design is very neat and challenging for the average golfer. Planning your shots and course management is a must.
The signature hole #5 is one of the most unique and challenging holes I’ve played.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and our bartender was great!
Now for the not-so-positives..
Lots of small issues that compiled into a “meh” experience.
The bulk of the course smelled of raw sewage or decay. The first 5 holes specifically had a distinct rotting smell. Not sure if that’s a recent issue or a common issue there.
The course was in rough shape to say the least.
The fairways and fringe were scalped in spots, leaving patches of sand and dirt.
The greens were recently punched and top dressed, but didn’t seem to be rolled. Weeds were sprouting on every green as well. The greens in this condition were not receptive of approach shots and putting was not enjoyable. Planning your putt line was borderline pointless. Your ball was constantly hitting weeds and clumps of sand and dirt.
A few of the tee boxes were just sand and dirt.
The rough had clumps of dead and dry clippings everywhere.
The carts are outdated and did not have gps.
