We stayed a night here and spent much of the next day here given how beautiful the area was. Nothing gets you more immersed in the Nebraska atmosphere than being at a State Park and still being able to hear the cows! When we parked our RV we were greeted by the owner who had her adorable 3 dogs with her. Found out we parked the RV in the wrong area (whoops!), however she let us stay where we were and even said we could grab firewood and pay in the morning! Which was a great thing because the trash pandas tries to invade our campsite from the river!
The morning we took the hike to see the gorgeous Nebraska tallest waterfall. Walking over the river in the process we decided to hop in the river to a sandbar in the middle and proceeded to body float down river which was so much fun we walked back up and went down again!!
The 1-5 scale never does justice but coming to Smith Falls is as great as when you check your bank account before payday and find out you have $2.63 left so you can go to McDonalds and dont have to...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our visit to see Smith Falls! You need a day pass so stop by the office first. It's a nice little walk to the falls. People tubing down the Niobrara can make a pit stop to see the falls so they give it a fun atmosphere. The best part is that you can get into the falls! The water is ice cold, nice on a summer day. It was so awesome to stand right under the falls & see it coming down at you, without getting soaked. It looks like they have a lot of spots for camping so if that's your thing, you can hear the waterfall & go see it whenever you like. Other best part is that it's a dog friendly activity. Our pooch enjoyed the attention &...

The falls, the tallest in Nebraska, are easy to reach via a well-kept path and a walk across the Niobrara on the old Verdigre Bridge, under which canoes glide in the most peaceful setting you could imagine. Past the river, when you reach the falls, take off your shoes and wade in a little closer to look up at the clouds through...
